Small Ensemble Flute,Piano,Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1009919 Composed by Martin Lachance. Contemporary. Score and parts. 7 pages. Martin Lachance #22647. Published by Martin Lachance (A0.1009919). This composition was commissioned by the Ensemble de Bilitis, a Montreal based music ensemble consisting of a mezzo-soprano, a flute, and a piano. I asked my cousin, the visual artist and poet Patrick Michael Lachance, if he would write a poem for the occasion. His words inspire me, and I had already composed a work on one of his texts (see Sang d’encre). When he wrote the text, Patrick Michaël decided to step into the shoes of one who has lost his great love. The term Les heures bleues (or blue hours) refers to the wee hours of the morning when the sun begins to appear on the horizon. After many sleepless nights waiting for this lost love, despair quietly settles in. The piece is in four sections, each section corresponding to a stanza of the text. Each section begins with two ascending fifths in the piano, symbolizing the dawning of the morning.
