Lines on a Walk II takes its title from the Pedagogical Sketchbook by the Swiss-born artist Paul Klee (1925). Klee was fascinated by music (he played the violin) and many composers have interpreted Klee's notion of 'line' as a way to conceive musical melody. Lines on a Walk II is an abridged chamber version of the original Lines on a Walk piece that was flexibly scored in 15 instrumental parts. This second version is specifically written for flute, clarinet, piano, percussion (any 3 apt untuned instruments, plus marimba & vibraphone), violin, and cello. It was written for IXION and first performed by them, conducted by composer Michael Finnissy in 2001. Note: this document is the full score only.
