The Girl with the Flaxen Hair is one of Debussy's most popular solo piano compositions. Number 8 in Book I of Debussy's two books of Preludes, the piece is an example of Debussy's experimentation with new scales, especially the pentatonic scale in this instance. The work, in Gb major, is performed almost entirely on the black keys of the piano.
