Alberti refers to the so-called Alberti bass common in 18th-century keyboard music: think Mozart, Haydn, and early Beethoven. Proving the basic idea still works for modern piano composition, I've adapted it here in a country blues format. Befitting the more contemporary harmonic style, the V7 chord here is a minor 7th, not dominant. The difficulty in this piece starts at measure 10, where a contrapuntal voice jumps in. But it's short—and fun to play. A good showpiece for the advanced intermediate pianist.

Johann Strauss jr. wrote this waltz in 1858 in Pavlovsk, Russia, located 30 kilometers south from St. Petersburg, the capital of the Russian Empire. It was firt performed there soon before of his return to Vienna in September 1858. This transcription was commissioned by Wind Philharmonic Mozarteum Salzburg. The trumpeter from the Central Alberta Chamber Players requested this one, and right she is! This tune works really well for the three voices of the brass trio. Here it is in the more brass friendly keys of Bb and Ab majors. It still requires piccolo trumpet for the solos. You can pair it with the opening fanfare from the album, Magical Mystery Tour (Eb) (Arr. Bicigo).

Aus den Bergen (From the Mountains) was composed in summer 1864 during Johann Strauss' annual concert trip to Russia. It  premiered on 2 October 1864 in Pavlovsk near St. Petersburg and was dedicated to the famous Viennese music critic Eduard Hanslick.  This arrangement in the original key of the orchestral version was commissioned by Salzburg Wind Philharmonic, principal conductor  Hansjoerg Angerer and premiered at their Three Kings' Concert on 6 January 2020 at the Grosses Festspielhaus  (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria and broadcasted live by Austrian television.  Albert Schwarzmann had to step in at very short notice for the sick Hansjoerg Angerer, who performed this piece at the same event  on 6 January 2024. Albert Zabel (1834-1910) was solo harpist at the Imperial Ballet in St. Petersburg and taught at the newly founded Conservatory from 1855 on. His Harp Concerto of 1904 is extremely interesting and is moving between sublime and soulful ballet music.
