Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1097306 Composed by Peter Cornelius/Philipp Nicolai. Arranged by William J. Bullock. 19th Century,A Cappella,Christmas,Holiday,Spiritual. Octavo. 7 pages. Sigma Squared Music #701255. Published by Sigma Squared Music (A0.1097306). This famous song is from the cycle Weihnachtslieder (“Christmas Songsâ€) by the deeply spiritual German composer Peter Cornelius. Composed in 1856 and revised in 1859 and 1870, the cycle is one of the composer’s most popular works. The perspicuity and clarity of its music and verse (Cornelius wrote both) reflect the composer’s engaging and candid temperament. The poetic message of the angular vocal line is cleverly bolstered by the subliminal message of the smoothly flowing accompanying chorale, How Brightly Shines the Morning Star by Philipp Nicolai (1556–1608). Originally scored for piano, the chorale is sung in this arrangement by a four-part mixed chorus.

Men's choir (4 voices) - easy to intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q7312 Selig sprach vom Bergessteig. Composed by Peter Cornelius. This edition: choral score. Schott Choral Music. Downloadable, Choral score. Schott Music - Digital #Q7312. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q7312). German. When Peter Cornelius (1824–1874), the musically and literarily talented and versatile artist, went to Weimar in 1852 to pursue further studies with Franz Liszt, the latter advised him to 'throw himself into writing sacred music with a will'. He heeded his advice and thereupon wrote a series of liturgical and religious pieces for men's choir as well as the song cycle 'Vater unser'. 'Die Seligkeiten' for a cappella men's choir was sketched by Cornelius in June 1852 with numerous other evidently unfinished works after his encounter with Liszt. The text is a free adaptation of the Beatitudes from the Gospel according to St Matthew. Set chordally and homophonically throughout, the choral work captivates people with its simplicity and expressiveness.

Men's choir - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q7313 Motets for four-part men's choir. Composed by Peter Cornelius. This edition: choral score. Schott Choral Music. Downloadable, Choral score. Schott Music - Digital #Q7313. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q7313). Latin. 'Domine salvum fac regem' too was composed by Cornelius in this context – in two versions: for a cappella men's choir and for solo tenor, mixed choir and orchestra. The version for men's choir was written in May 1852, setting to music in a 'speaking' and expressive manner the texts compiled from psalm and doxology, with colourful motet-like and block-like sections and a 'Gloria Deo', set as if chiselled, which introduces the final section – an impressive work.

Vl. 1, Vl. 2, Va., Vc., Kb. voice and strings (string quartet with double bass ad libitum or string orchestra) - easy to intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q22578 Composed by Peter Cornelius. Arranged by Wolfgang Birtel. This edition: score. Downloadable, Score. Schott Music - Digital #Q22578. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q22578). Latin. The composer Peter Cornelius (1824–1874) from Mainz often called himself a 'poet-composer': All his life, he busied himself with composing and writing alike. No wonder that he had devoted himself particularly to the composition of songs, already in his student days in Berlin in the late 1840s. The newly edited 'Ave Maria' was found among the composer's unpublished works. Although bearing the dedication 'Fräulein von Hillebrandt zum 13. September 1862', it was probably created earlier. It is a simple, chordally accompanied song which is quite suitable for liturgical purposes. The arrangement for strings, which can perform soloistically or in groups, expands the possibilities of use especially for this area.
