This festive organ work is based on the hymn tune Grosser Gott, known usually by the text Holy God, We Praise Your Name.  This work is playable on one manual, and while composed with a faster tempo and full organ in mind, it could also work with a slower tempo and more gentle registration.  Creativity is encouraged!  The recording was done on a two manual instrument with no registration changes, aside from a few measures played on the swell.

Various texts for this hymn include Let the Whole Creation Cry, Songs of Thankfulness and Praise and At the Lamb's High Feast We Sing.  This prelude clearly states the melody of the hymn, so it will be a perfect lead-in for the opening hymn and can easily work as a hymn introduction.  Giving you the chance to feature a nice trumpet or reed, this arrangement was written and recorded on a two-manual instrument. John Goss' 1869 hymn tune Lauda Anima is a festive and joyful tune, mostly known by the text Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven.  It is often used for festival services when some good Alleluias need singing!  This fanfare prelude clearly states the hymn tune in between original fanfare motives.  It was written and recorded on a two manual instrument.  I hope it adds some joy to your service!

The hymn tune Wondrous Love was first set in the 1840 publication Southern Harmony.  For this set of variations, I used the text at the end of the first phrase in the four verses found in most hymnals.  It was written on a two manual instrument, but with more manuals has many more chances for wonderful registrations!  The first performance of this work was by Carson Cooman at The Memorial Church, Harvard University on April 10, 2024.   I hope you enjoy playing it!
