A setting of a fragment from Agamemnon(Oresteia) by Aeschylus (V,160-166). Characterized by a chromatic melody and of remote progress harmony, the work attempts a tribute to the style of  Gesualdo da Venosa. It was a commission by the Thomas Tamvakos Greek Composers Archive and it has been performed at the Hellenic American Union Theatre by vocal ensemble Philodos, in 2007. Transcribed for flute, violin, and cello in 2021 as Three for a Hymn op.37b.

A Steady Stream of Consciousness is an attempt to synthesize perceived polarities of reality: happiness vs. anger, life vs. death, and the indeterminate nature of life in the microcosm vs. the relative stasis of phenomena in the macrocosm. These dualities are represented in the juxtaposition of the two saxophone quartets (staged in stereo), the indeterminate rhythms of the typewriter in combination with the steady metric repetition of the rest of the ensemble, and the contradictory and often disjunctive mental pathway of the typist governed by the various writing prompts throughout the piece. The synthesis of all these conflicting elements into a seamless aural experience cedes to the philosophical notion that all reality is interconnected and that the dichotomies observed therein are in fact non-existent. After two years of off and on progress with months in between, I finally had the motivation to finish my third wind band piece, Nuclear. When first composing this piece, I imagined an apocalyptic scene, similar to that of those video games set in some kind of wasteland (hence the name, Nuclear). The piece is completely through-composed, and around the 3:30 minute mark, I decided to shift the theme from armageddon to rebuilding and hope. Here, the piece makes a sudden character change with a rather abrupt transition, which actually just results from my lack of skill in writing... Either way, the overall story that I am trying to tell, whether it be literal or philosophical, is that life will eventually return to normal, as one takes absorbed damage and attempts to heal. This is applicable especially today, as the 2020 pandemic has torn apart lives from all cultures and backgrounds. Someday, we will be celebrating the moment that we can all be together again. Please, if you like wind band repertoire, consider giving this piece a listen and find the story it can tell in your life. Thank you, and enjoy Nuclear.
