Composed by Chris Gordon. Arranged by Chris Gordon. Folk,Rock. Score and parts. 10 pages. Cool Wind Music Digital #3220995. Published by Cool Wind Music Digital (A0.841273).

This is a folk/rock ballad with a twist as the 'story' it tells comes straight out of a novel by German author Günter Grass', Local Anaesthetic (1969).

Phillipp (Flip) Scherbaum, a 17-year old Berlin high school student, wants to do something, anything to protest what he has been reading in newspapers has been happening to the people of Vietnam. (Remember this is 1967!) He comes up with an idea:  he has a little Dachshund puppy called Max. Flip decides to burn Max right outside the most famous café in Berlin, Kempinski's (it is still there), to shock complacent Berliners into paying attention to what is happening in Vietnam. His history teacher, Eberhard (Hardy) Starusch, agrees to Flip's protest idea but draws the line firmly against killing an innocent animal. Hardy sets out to dissuade his student from carrying out this doggiecide. Instead, he resolves to steer Flip to less harmful ways of protesting. The effort drives Hardy to a lot of hard thinking and hard drinking and a lot of trips to the dentist!

Poor Max is a realisation of one of Hardy's suggestions to Flip: to write and perform a protest song outside Kempinski's - and elsewhere in Berlin, too. You will not be surprised to hear that head-strong Flip rejects this suggestion but I have taken up Hardy's idea and written my own protest song for Flip. The words and the music are my own: I have not borrowed either from anyone else (except for one little phrase which I discovered I had unconsciously borrowed from Robert Schumann)!

By Sharon Wilson. By Joseph P. Webster, Joseph Philbrick Webster, and Sanford Bennett. Arranged by Sharon Wilson. 19th Century,Christian,Religious,Romantic Period,Sacred. Score. 2 pages. Sharon Wilson #970551. Published by Sharon Wilson (A0.1386669).

This early-intermediate piano solo arrangement has been artistically crafted to provide a unique accompaniment that creatively enhances the melody line played by the right hand. Lyrics are included for sing-along enjoyment.

All notes for this arrangement are within the two octaves adjoining Middle C. The LEFT HAND plays from low C to Middle C. The RIGHT HAND plays from Middle C to high C.  This arrangement is ideal for introducing classic Christian songs to piano students. It is a great addition to the supplementary repertoire for students after they have mastered the basics of music notation and note reading.

This arrangement is also great for sight-reading practice and perfect for small keyboards.  Requiring only two octaves, it provides the opportunity for additional practice and enjoyment even when a full-sized keyboard is not available.

This arrangement is one of the 20 songs in the collection titled 20 Easy Christian Classics, BOOK 2 (Two Octave, Early-Intermediate Piano Solos).

Composed by Léo Delibes (1836-1891). Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Concert,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 50 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #516831. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808646).

Among the most noteworthy works by Clément Philibert Léo Delibes are two ballets, Coppélia (1870) and Sylvia (1876). Delibes based the latter on a Aminta, a play written by Torquato Tasso three centuries earlier, and it is populated by characters such as Eros, Diana, Orion, as well as Aminta and, of course, Sylvia. The third act opens in the forest with a celebration of the wine vintage, the Grand cortège de Bacchus (March and Procession of Bacchus). The March is exciting and brassy (enough so that the 1982-1986 television series, Knight Rider, used it for a musical theme!). The Procession is more song-like but ends with a big restatement of the March.
Completed in 2012, this arrangement runs about 6 minutes, 50 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge; contact him directly at lessmith61@bellsouth.net. Inspired by my father's translation of Théophile Gautier's poem Noël The sky is dark, the earth is white, oh bells ring out with joy Jesus is born, the Virgin quiet shelters her baby boy. Noel Noel Noel bells ring out with joy! No wraps No festooned curtains spread to shield the child from frost nothing but flimsy spider webs trail from the beams aloft. He shivers in that cold stable this Jesus child so dear, and so to warm him in the cradle, the ass and ox draw near. The snow hangs down in lacy fringe. But far above the heavens swell reveal the angel choir that sings to men Noel Noel The pdf file contains score and parts. The sound sample is an electronic preview. God Gave Me You is a song recorded by American country music artist Bryan White, and written by Andy Goldmark, Jamie Houston and James Dean Hicks. It was released in October 1999 as the second single from the album How Lucky I Am. The song reached No. 40 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart.

In 2015, however, God Gave Me You experienced a major surge in popularity in the Philippines after it became associated with AlDub-a popular on-air couple seen on the Kalyeserye segment of the local variety show Eat Bulaga!. White learned of the phenomenon in September 2015 after noting the significant amount of discussion related to AlDub and the song on Twitter. He explained that the one thing that was reinforced for me is to never underestimate the impact of music and what it can do. Many years ago I worked hard in making that the best it can be, and it just goes to show that it's in God's timing. It was a hit in the United States but nothing compared to here now.

Composed by Drake Mabry. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 31 pages. Drake Mabry #3035401. Published by Drake Mabry (A0.799483).

'Nantes' is a commission from the French Ministry of Culture for a concerto for tuba and band. It was written in 1991 and first performed on June 10, 1992 by Michel Godard and the Philhar of Nantes, France conducted by Frederic Oster.

In four movements and with a duration of 11 minutes, Nantes puts the tuba soloist in several musical environments from quiet and ominous to fast and energetic. The movement headings indicate this. The 1st movement is dedicated to Fafner followed by a Waltz that has trouble beginning. The 3rd movement is dedicated to Don Ellis and the final movement is dedicated to Bach and Ives. A varied and virtuoso piece for both tuba soloist and band.

Mendelssohn Background

Felix Mendelssohn (1809 –1847) was, by all means, a German mastermind composer, musician, and orchestra conductor of the Romantic period. Consequently, Mendelssohn composed in the usual forms of the time - symphonies, concertos, oratorios, piano music, and chamber music. To summarize, his most famous works include his music for A Midsummer Night's Dream, the Italian Symphony, the Scottish Symphony, The Hebrides Overture, his later Concerto for Violin & Orchestra, and his Octet for Strings. His most well-known piano pieces, by and large, are the Songs Without Words.

Artistic Standing

Musical tastes change from time to time. Moreover, just such a change occurred in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This plus rampant antisemitism brought a corresponding amount of undue criticism. Fortunately, however, his artistic inventiveness has indeed been critically re-evaluated. As a result, Mendelssohn is once again among the most prevalent composers of the Romantic era.

Early Family Life

Mendelssohn was, in fact, born into a prominent Jewish family. His grandfather was, notably, the philosopher Moses Mendelssohn. Felix was, in fact, raised without religion. At the age of seven, he was suddenly baptized as a Reformed Christian. He was, moreover, a child musical prodigy. Nevertheless, his parents did not attempt to exploit his talent.

Early Adulthood

Mendelssohn was, in general, successful in Germany. He conducted, in particular, a revival of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, specifically with his presentation of the St Matthew Passion in 1829. Felix was truly in demand throughout Europe as a composer, conductor, and soloist. For example, he visited Britain ten times. There, he premiered, namely, many of his significant works. His taste in music was. To be sure, inventive and well-crafted yet markedly conservative. This conservatism separated him by all means from more audacious musical colleagues like Liszt, Wagner, and Berlioz. Mendelssohn founded the Leipzig Conservatoire which, to clarify, became a defender of this conservative viewpoint.

Mature Adulthood

Schumann notably wrote that Mendelssohn was the Mozart of the nineteenth century, the most brilliant musician, the one who most clearly sees through the contradictions of the age and for the first time reconciles them. This observation points to a couple of features in particular that illustrate Mendelssohn's works and his artistic procedure.

Musical Features

In the first place, his musical style was fixed in his systematic mastery of the style of preceding masters. This being said, he certainly recognized and even developed early romanticism from the music of Beethoven and Weber. Secondly, it indicates that Mendelssohn sought to strengthen his inherited musical legacy rather than to exchange it with new forms and styles or replace it with exotic orchestration. Consequently, he diverged his contemporaries in the romantic period, such as Wagner, Berlioz, and Liszt. Mendelssohn revered Liszt's virtuosity at the keyboard but found his music rather insubstantial.
