This was originally written for solo voice with a string accompaniment, but I have reduced it down to an organ/piano part and solo recorder. This is my favourite point in the opera; this song is hauntingly beautiful and fits the recorder well. I have left the lyrics in the score so the performer can read the original text when rehearsing.

The contrabass recorder part is optional since it mostly doubles the bass 3 part.Kyrie Eleison is the opening of Bach's glorious B minor mass, and is about 10 minutes worth of rich and chromatic harmony. The use of counterpoint in this movement is stunning, and Bach cleverly repeats the theme over and over in different voices and in different contexts. This is a beautiful baroque piece suitable for any early intermediate recorder ensemble. It was written originally for a choir and a small orchestra, but it works beautifully for the recorder - have a listen!

I have spent a long time carefully adapting this violin concerto for a recorder ensemble, and have provided ossias to cater for the less experienced player. This should be accessible to any amateur recorder ensemble who is looking for a challenge.
