This work for trombone and organ is part of the 2024 Suite for Trombone and Organ, which is geared toward the younger, less experienced player, with works that can be performed at church services and other occasions.  Dido's Lament, from Purcell's opera Dido and Aeneas is a lyrical, somber piece, giving the younger player the chance to develop phrasing and legato playing.  The emotional mood of this makes it perfect during reflective times of a service, especially during the Lenten season.  The range is one that a typical high school player (or advanced middle schooler) could play, with rhythms well within the reach of players at that level.  The solo part is well-supported by the organ part, with hopes that rehearsals can be minimal in putting this together for performance.  There are two other movements to this 2024 Suite, both available on this site as well.  Please give that young musician the chance to shine!  Also included is a treble clef part that could be played by trumpet, treble clef baritone, or tenor sax.

Guitar 2:  The Guitar 2 Part provides adds a fingerstyle chord technique that is unmistakable.  Toward the end of the piece, Guitar 2 plays harmony with Guitar 1 for the iconic solo.  This part can be played by an intermediate player.  All fingering and tabulator are included for convenience. The alto sax has a couple of split measures to reinforce the trills but supports the horn line for the rest of the march. The tenor sax supports the horn part when the altos have the trills. The ranges are within most 1st-year players and easily within 2nd-year players range. The 2nd Clarinet never goes above the break. The trills for all woodwinds (fountains) are easy trills for younger players.Brass—Only the trumpet part is split and it is rhythmically unison throughout. Low brass/woodwinds are mostly entirely unison throughout the piece. Like the WW’s, all parts are playable by 1st-year players. Percussion uses a standard concert march instrumentation. Triangulum contains several galaxies. Players shift seating positions for the DC. In bar 66 the low player carefully activates the damper pedal after the resolution on beat 2, and holds it down while everyone moves.
