Piano,Tenor Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549404 Composed by Carl Bohm. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards,Wedding. Score and part. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #3493501. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549404). Duration: ca. 4:00, Score: 7 pages, solo part: 2 page, piano part: 3 pages. A very popular number for weddings, also effective for meditations and recital encores. Carl Bohm Carl Bohm, sometimes spelled with a K as in Karl Bohm, was born in 1844 and died in 1920. Bohm was a German composer, pianist, and songwriter. He was famous for writing songs with a light and optimistic atmosphere. Some of his most famous songs are Calm as the Night, Twilight, May Bells, Enfant Cheri, and The Fountain. In addition to his songs, he was a very popular composer of string quartets and string trios. His music was very popular and profitable. His publisher used some of the profits from sales of Bohm’s work to prepare the works of Johannes Brahms for publication. Output He certainly was prolific, not only with individual compositions but collections and albums of original music, such as the Bohm Album for the Pianoforte. The quality of his melodies is remarkable. They have a familiar quality similar to folk-songs. It’s no wonder they have become so popular.   His greatest masterpiece may well be the famous Calm as the Night as it is so well finished and refined. This song comes to us from a collection known simply as Lieder Op. 326. Calm as the Night (Still wie die Nacht) is listed as Number 27 in the collection. The song is scored for vocal duet and piano. The lyrics for Bohm’s Still wie die Nacht are anonymous. English: As quiet as the night And deep as the sea, Your love should be! If you love me The same as I love you, I want to be yours. As hot as steel And as firm as a rock, Your love should be!

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1416368 Composed by Isham Jones. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Jazz,Pop,Standards,Wedding. 28 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #997935. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1416368). Isham Edgar Jones certainly kept busy.  By age 26 the Chicago tenor saxophonist led his own dance band, and it was one of the most popular of the 1920s.  But he also found time to write melodies for a whole raft of popular songs.  Twenty-one Isham Jones Orchestra recordings of his compositions peaked in the top ten most popular, and eight of those made it to the number one spot.  One was It Had to Be You, with words by Gus Kahn.     Although written in 1924, It Had to Be You defies the passage of time, still sounding fresh and contemporary.  It remains popular and has evolved into a jazz standard.     This brass quintet version retains the original key of G Major.  It opens with a suggested tempo of 104 BPM and a nine-measure introduction that combines figures and phrases from both verse and chorus.  At rehearsal letter A, Trumpet 1 begins the melody of the familiar chorus, accompanied by Tuba and Horn in F.  Trumpet 2 quickly joins and the melody changes to an upper brass trio.  The melody then passes to Trombone, back to the trio, to Tuba and then to Horn in F.  The section winds up  with the original Trumpet-Horn-Tuba combination.     The seldom-heard verse begins at rehearsal letter C and takes the form of a sort of call-and-response between upper and lower brass.  As the section nears its end, tempo slows to a suggested 80 BPM and Trombone begins to take over.     Rehearsal letter D marks the beginning of the chorus’ final time through, and here it is mostly Trombone handling the melody in quasi-Dixieland fashion.  The upper brass trio and Tuba both help out, but, for the most part, it is Trombone all the way to the end.  (Although, a good time is had by all!)     Performance time is about three minutes, fifty seconds.  All notes are within the normal playing range of each instrument with the following exceptions:  (1) Trumpet 1 has one or two A-above-its-staff notes, and (2) in the wrap-up near the end, Trombone has the option of playing a short phrase either (a) within its register or (b) higher, including a G above the staff.     The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge.  He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms.  Contact him at lessmith61@bellsouth.net.  For more arrangements by Les, enter Sweetwater Brass Press (without the quotation marks) in the Sheet Music Plus or Sheet Music Direct search box.

Choral Choir (SAT) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1274487 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Celtic,Contest,Festival,Folk,Irish,Wedding. Octavo. 10 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #866631. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1274487). This lovely folksong is thought to have come from Scotland, though similar versions have been recorded in other parts of Britain. The song is also known as “O Waly, Waly†(it rhymes with daily) which means something like “woe is meâ€. For such an old song, it is not surprising that there are many variations of the lyrics. There are many sets of lyrics with different story-lines. This was because performers would often create new lyrics for the song. This melody has attracted a family of lyrics many of which bear little relationship to each other. The words used in this choral arrangement reflect the popular lyrics used during the twentieth century. The song was made popular by many folk singers notably Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. It has become one of the most popular folk songs today, largely because of its beautiful tune. But as with the lyrics, there are many variations on the melody with the result that no single variation can be considered the “correct†one. This SAT arrangement by Colin Kirkpatrick is ideal for school choir, amateur choir or college choir especially when there are few male voices. Each section of the choir as the melody line at some point and there are attractive and evocative counter-melodies. In the soprano part (which has one brief divisi section), the highest note is G5 (the G just above the staff, but only once). The alto part range is of B flat 3 to E5. The tenor range is D3 to D4. The music begins in E flat and modulates to C major. Running at just over three minutes, the work is sure to be popular with choir and audiences alike.

The song is also known as “O Waly, Waly†which means something like “woe is meâ€. For such an old song, it is not surprising that there are many variations of the lyrics. There are many sets of lyrics with different story-lines. This was because in the past, performers would often create new lyrics for the song. This melody has attracted an entire family of lyrics many of which bear little relationship to each other. The words used in this choral arrangement reflect the popular lyrics used during the twentieth century. The song was arranged for voice and piano in 1948 by British composer Benjamin Britten but in more recent times, was made popular by many folk singers notably The Seekers, Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. It has become one of the most popular folk songs today, largely because of its beautiful tune. But as with the lyrics, there are many variations on the melody with the result that no single variation can be considered the “correct†one. This SAB arrangement by Colin Kirkpatrick is ideal for high school or college choir. Each section of the choir as the melody line at some point and there are attractive and evocative counter-melodies. In the soprano part (which has one brief divisi section), the highest not is G5 which appears only once and is approached safely.  The highest note in the alto part is C5 (in the middle of the treble staff). The baritone part lies between A flart 2 and D 3 (just above the staff) and well within the normal choral range. The piano part is an integral part of the arrangement and therefore essential. The music begins in E flat and modulates to C major. Running at just over three minutes, the work is sure to be popular with choir and audiences alike.
