Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.808684 Composed by Irving Berlin (1888–1989). Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Holiday,Jazz,Patriotic. Score and parts. 42 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #3582931. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808684). Irving Berlin’s composition Alexander’s Ragtime Band was not only his first hit, it was also one of the most popular songs ever. It first gained widespread recognition when Emma Carus sang it in Chicago in 1911, and then it really took off when Al Jolson performed it in New York. It’s no wonder the popularity of Alexander’s has been so long-lived. Both words and music are absolutely bouncy and upbeat. The lyrics proclaim the Ragtime Band to be the best . . . in the land and invite the listener to come on and hear the group, even to meet its leader! The tune is energetic and lively, a salute to the toe-tapping Dixieland style that even then was developing in New Orleans.  This arrangement takes the natural exuberance of the melody and raises it a couple of notches. Wide open and sprightly, it features the trombone, but also gives each of the other parts a chance to shine, too. In addition to several iterations of the well-known chorus, it also includes the seldom-heard verse and even throws in a few true ragtime licks, quotes from Scott Joplin and Percy Wenrich. The tempo is a bouncy, cut-time 76, with some fairly tricky rhythms and one ritardando near the middle. Trumpet 1 plays a couple of notes above its staff, one A and one B. Trombone plays F above its staff several times and one brief G. Tuba’s lowest note is F below the staff. This arrangement was completed in 2018, and performance time runs about 4 minutes, 33 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, would be very interested in your comments; contact him at lessmith@ufl.edu or leave a review on the SheetMusicPlus website. Instrumental Duet Alto Flute,Instrumental Duet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1109574 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by David McKeown. 20th Century,Jazz,Ragtime. Score and parts. 5 pages. David McKeown #711947. Published by David McKeown (A0.1109574). The most popular of Scott Joplin’s piano rags during his lifetime, The Maple Leaf Rag was published in 1899. Joplin lived for a while in Sedalia, Missouri and the Maple Leaf Club in that town is thought to have provided the name for this composition. It provided Joplin with a steady income for the rest of his life, and while he requested that it be played at his funeral, his wife refused as she felt it inappropriate. It was the first track on Joshua Rifkin’s famous 1970 revival recording of Joplin’s music and, never waning in popularity, it has featured in hundreds of films. This duet version for one Flute and one Alto Flute includes all four sections of the original composition. The tempo in recorded versions varies widely between 72 and 126, so the marking of 92 is a suggestion only. The YouTube link is a full performance of the Clarinet version of this arrangement.. Musicians at an advanced intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The overall performance time is around four minutes. Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with phrasing, syncopated rhythms and light articulation.  There are many more top quality arrangements and compositions by David McKeown for you to browse at http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/publishers/david-mckeown/6203

Cello Solo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.800200 Composed by Ramin Djawadi. Arranged by Samantha J Bramley - stringspirational@gmail.com. Contemporary. Individual part. 11 pages. Samantha Bramley #3875421. Published by Samantha Bramley (A0.800200). A tribute to the hugely popular soundtrack of Game of Thrones, arranged for 5 'cellos. Lasting approximately 3 minutes, this would make a great encore for a 'cello ensemble concert and would complement my arrangement of the Opening Title (also availble on SheetMusicPlus). Both pieces are a great showcase for the versatility and current popularity of the 'cello. Written entirely in bass clef and never above 4th position (with the exception of A harmonics) this is a very accessible arrangement for most ensembles of beginner/intermediate ability. If played by a 'cello orchestra (rather than 5 individual 'cellists) parts 1 and 2 should be solo in bars 11 - 18 only (or could be 2 celli per part for less confident performers). All other parts are tutti throughout. Dynamics should be varied accordingly. Note from the arranger: All my arrangements for 'cello quartet, quintet and sextet are conceived specifically with the range and technical capabilities of the 'cello in mind - no simple transpositions or re-orchestrations of string quartet scores. They are therefore both easily playable and enjoyable by any intermediate to advanced 'cello ensemble. Most parts do not go beyond 4th position, making them equally suitable for student, mixed ability groups or ‘cello choirs. A complete score and set of individual parts is included. Enjoy and feel free to email comments or requests for other works to stringspirational@gmail.com Keep Calm & Play 'Cello!

Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.964304 Composed by Liangzhen Zhu. Arranged by Jack Evans. Contemporary. Guitar Tab. 2 pages. Jack Stanley Evans #5899531. Published by Jack Stanley Evans (A0.964304). Jasmine FlowerComposed during the Qing dynasty (AD 1616-1912), this is one of the most famous and popular folk songs in China, and one of the earliest to gain popularity overseas; its melody can be heard in Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot opera. The song’s lyrics compare the purity of young love to white Jasmine flowers; an image that is reinforced by the pure and delicate melody.Perform this arrangement as delicately as possible, almost as if the notes are rain drops gently falling onto a white jasmine flower, or imagine that the guitar itself is made from petals that need to be held gently to avoid breaking them. Also, it can be played slightly more freely than how it is notated, add rubato tastefully throughout to help the music breathe, and allow the open A and D strings to ring as much as possible to create a hypnotic drone.

B-Flat Clarinet,Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548486 Composed by Gruber. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas. Score and part. 3 pages. Jmsgu3 #3387049. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548486). Silent Night arranged for clarinet in Bb & piano with new harmony for the third verse. Score: 2 pg. Part: 1 pg. Silent Night Origins Father Joseph Mohr wrote the lyrics for a new Christmas Carol. He wanted the new carol for his Christmas Eve Mass. With only a couple of hours until the service, He asked organist and schoolteacher Franz Gruber to write a melody and simple accompaniment to go with the lyrics. The result is probably the most famous of all Christmas carols – Silent Night. First Performance Perhaps because the organ was undergoing repairs, or to make sure the accompaniment was easy enough, Mohr asked Gruber to write it for the guitar. Mohr played the guitar, and both Mohr and Gruber gave the world premiere performance at the Christmas Eve Mass in 1818 at St. Nicholas Church in Oberndorf in Salzburg. Original Score Eventually, the original score became lost, and consequently, Mohr's name was largely forgotten.  Though the public originally recognized Gruber as the composer, many people over time began rumors that a more famous composer was responsible. Thus, they floated the names of Haydn, Mozart, and even Beethoven. Authorities eventually settled the matter when a manuscript in Mohr’s handwriting turned up in 1820. Consequently, we learn that Mohr wrote the lyrics in 1816, and Gruber composed the melody in 1818. Popularity Nonetheless, Silent Night is still very popular. Singers have performed this song in nearly every genre and in multiple languages. Perhaps the most famous version is the one Bing Crosby crafted. This version is the third best-selling physical single recording in the history of recorded music. This particular recording was released in 1935 and sold at least 30 million copies. Only two songs have ever sold more. Elton John released Candle in the Wind in 1997 and sold 33 million copies. The record for most copies ever sold goes to Bing Crosby. He released White Christmas in 1942 and sold 50 million physical copies. Register for free lifetime updates and revisions at www.jamesguthrie.com
