Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1189545 By Brian Golden. By Brian Golden. Arranged by Brian Golden. Classical,Contemporary. Score. 3 pages. Brian Golden #789177. Published by Brian Golden (A0.1189545). Prelude 1 in C Major Ionian from 24 Preludes for the Piano in Major and Minor Modes by composer Brian Golden.   The creative concept in writing these preludes is to provide a link to past preludes written for the keyboard, and in particular to the works of J.S. Bach and Frederic Chopin, whose works stand as essential repertoire for any student of the piano.  Using Bach’s and Chopin’s examples, my goal was to compose in all twenty-four keys, yet offer my own variation on the progression of key signatures – Bach’s being a pattern of major to parallel minor progressing chromatically through all keys, and Chopin’s a pattern of major to relative minor keys progressing clockwise through the circle of fifths.  In order to expand my harmonic and melodic possibilities, I have included the modal keys rather than only the major and harmonic minor keys, and have chosen to work counterclockwise through the circle of fifths, which is a more natural harmonic progression.  Therefore, all major preludes resolve from one to another V-I, as well as do all the minor preludes.   While there are seven modal scales, I decided to leave out the locrian modes for the following reasons.  First, due to the diminished fifth, the locrian mode cannot be thought of as either major nor minor.  Second, the locrian mode did not have a relative key to pair with, since there were no other keys with the identical characteristic notes.    In creating the key architecture, I determined that there was only one solution to pairing major and relative minor scales based on a shared parent key and characteristic note - ionian/aolian, mixolydian/phrygian and lydian/dorian.  This specific order of modal scales is the only order that would enable composing in all twelve key signatures.  Finally, the inspiration for each prelude came from playing through several other preludes in the same keys - mostly by Bach and Chopin - and letting their themes and styles influence me in the writing of my own.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.534500 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Paul Wehage. Baroque,Concert,Standards. 429 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3573587. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.534500). J. S. Bach completed the 24 preludes and fugues that make up the first book of the Well-Tempered Clavier in 1722 in Cöthen, where much of his other important instrumentalchamber music was written. The twenty-four segments go through all of the major and minor keys, with an prelude which explores a single texture or figuration and a contrasting fugue in either 2, 3, 4 or 5 voices. In this arrangement, the different voices are either shared by the four instruments or, in the case of the five voices of the Fugue in Bb minor, implied through arpeggios in the alto and tenor voices. Care must be taken to make these implied chordssound through discretely sustaining these voices through resonance. The preludes are generally in relatively free improvisatory forms which explore different types of baroque devises, including italianate keyboard figuration, “arioso†ornamented melodies with ostinato accompaniments, and more abstract forms. Two of the preludes are especially notable: the stately harmonic progression of the First prelude in C major, one of Bach’s most well-known works, and the gigantic prelude and double fugue of the Eb Major prelude. The fugues represent an exploration of all styles, ranging from the Ricacare in the Fugue no. 4 in c# minor and the use of augmentation, canon and inversion in no. 8 in Eb minor.

His cycle of 24 Preludes, Op. 28, covers all major and minor keys.In addition, Chopin wrote three other preludes: a prelude in C? minor, Op. 45; a piece in A? major from 1834; and an unfinished piece in E? minor. Piano Solo - Digital Download SKU: A0.1119216 Composed by Eamon Mukhopadhyay. Contemporary. Score. 15 pages. Eamon Mukhopadhyay #720630. Published by Eamon Mukhopadhyay (A0.1119216). These preludes showcase certain environments that are represented by specific musical features. Prelude No. 1 in C Major The Sunrise was composed to represent the picture and environment of the sun rising. It never uses the traditional C major triad, and instead substitutes the C major mediant (the third scale degree of C major) with surrounding harmonic colors. Prelude No. 2 in C Minor Mystics in the Forest is a study of touch and melodic outlining. Only in the first measure exists the resemblance of a C minor chord (a minor thirteenth) using the mediant (the third scale-degree of a scale). Prelude No. 3 in E-Flat Major The Spring Story completely uses staccato melodic articulations with the sustain pedal to produce a colorful environment throughout the piece, representative of spring. It never resolves into the traditional E-Flat major triad (or extended E-Flat chord) after the first measure. Prelude No. 4 in A-Flat Major Childhood Memories uses accented, deep bass notes and staccato melodic articulation to create a nostalgic environment. Like Prelude No. 3, it never resolves into the traditional triad (or extended chord) based on the tonic of the key signature.

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1189167 Composed by Simon James. Classical,Contemporary,Instructional. Individual part. 6 pages. DML #788788. Published by DML (A0.1189167). These short Preludes for guitar are intended to illustrate a particular technical point or points. It may be either technical or compositional or both and I would have to say that I have been influenced by Tarrega’s Preludes which he wrote mostly for his students and so have called them Preludes rather than Studies. I learnt Tarrega’s pieces such as Adelita and Lagrima early in my study of the guitar and always enjoyed their nature as both technical exercises but also performance pieces. I have tried to emulate that with these pieces. The piece makes extensive use of open strings but is essentially a set of variations. The melody keeps returning but with small alterations as does the accompaniment. There is also a B section in E minor before a return to the opening melody. The return to the opening section has, as a variation, a change in bass and harmony. The original C major7 chord becomes E minor by changing the bass and the E minor chord becomes C major7 in the same fashion. The effect is subtle but attractive and is no harder to play.
