B-Flat Trumpet,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1310493 Composed by J S Bach-Gounod. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Instructional,Praise & Worship,Wedding. Score and part. 6 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #899556. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1310493). This ever-popular piece is often performed at weddings, funerals and many other solemn ceremonial events. It has always been a favorite among instrumental players and often used in recitals or concert encores. This arrangement by Colin Kirkpatrick is ideal for the intermediate trumpet or cornet player. It is in concert C and the transposed trumpet range is from A below the treble staff to F sharp on the top line.Ā In 1853, the well-known French composer Charles Gounod added his own melody over a rippling keyboard accompaniment which was a slightly adapted version of the Prelude No. 1 in C major, BWV846, from Book I of J. S. Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier, published in 1722. The title of the ā€œcombinedā€ piece was MĆ©ditation sur le Premier PrĆ©lude de Piano de S. Bach. Gounod’s original arrangement transposed Bach’s keyboard part from C major into F major and it was scored for violin (or cello), organ and piano. In 1859, the French music publishing company Jacques-LĆ©opold Heugel brought out a vocal version based on the familiar Latin text. Ave Maria (Hail Mary) is a traditional Catholic prayer addressed to the Virgin Mary. The version of Bach's prelude which Gounod used included the so-called Schwencke measure (m. 27 in this arrangement), a measure (bar) allegedly added by the German composer and pianist Christian Friedrich Gottlieb Schwencke (1767-1822) in an attempt to correct what was considered a harmonic weakness in the original. Whether there actually was a ā€œharmonic weaknessā€ (or possibly an error in the manuscript) remains a matter of conjecture but the fact remains that the most familiar-sounding version of this piece, recorded countless times by both singers and instrumentalists includes this Schwencke measure. It is therefore included in this arrangement. Some published arrangements show minor inconsistencies in the rhythm of the melody. This arrangement uses the familiar rhythm of the Ave Maria version as it appeared in the 1859 edition.

Brass Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792667 Composed by Elizabeth Raum. 20th Century. Score and parts. 49 pages. Gordon Cherry #5329123. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792667). Elizabeth Raum's Quintet for Brass was written in 1980 and is just now being published for the first time. The work is in four movements: 1. Prelude, 2. Scherzo and Blues, 3. Passacaglia and Fugue and 4. Rondo. It is written for traditional brass quintet with Trumpets in B-flat for advanced performers and is about 15 minutes in length. The music is very expressive and tonal. Below is a brief description of the work by the composer, Elizabeth Raum. This piece is very much based on various musical forms. The Prelude has opened many a musical work from Baroque to the present. Then follows Scherzo and Blues, a light hearted bonbon moving into a lazy blues. Next is pure Baroque starting with a Passacaglia followed by a Fugue based on the Passacaglia progression. And finally finishing up with the Rondo, in a major key, light-hearted, canonic in places, with a feeling of the evolution of musical form.

B-Flat Clarinet,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1316712 Composed by Bach-Gounod. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Christmas,Contest,Festival,Religious,Traditional. Score and part. 11 pages. Jmsgu3 #905408. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1316712). This arrangement features the controversial Schwencke measure (ms. 27) initially introduced in 1783 by Christian Friedrich Gottlieb Schwencke. The convenient 1st & 2nd endings provide an option for extended performance. Duration with repeat - 4:50. Score: 7 pages. Solo part: 1 page, piano part: 4 pages. They are based on Prelude #1 in C Major from the Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1, and well suited for church meditations, school programs, or recital encores. Ave MariaAve Maria is a Catholic prayer that consequently asks for the mother of Jesus (Mary) to intercede. Charles Gounod composed a famous version of the Ave Maria. He was a French Romantic composer who overlaid a new melody on an existing Bach chord progression. The progression is from Bach's Prelude No. 1 from Well-Tempered Clavier I. This and Schubert's versions have become essential at weddings, masses, and funerals.Bach OverviewFirst, Johann Sebastian Bach may be the greatest composer in music history. Indeed, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. People are probably most familiar with instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and the Art of Fugue. His most famous vocal works seem to include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most striking, though, are the St. John Passion and certainly the Christmas Oratorio. HistoryBach came from a long line of musicians and, above all, composers. Consequently, he first of all pursued a career as a church organist. As a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. He worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen for a while. Here, he probably developed his organ style and, likewise, his chamber music style. Eventually, he gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here, he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as a court composer. StyleIt seems like Bach created a fascinating new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his unique style. This new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top.Revival              Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach's works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV.

Piano,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.534738 Composed by Claude Debussy/Robert Orledge. 20th Century,Concert,Standards,World. 19 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #6606487. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.534738). In January 1913, Debussy struggled to complete Toomai des Ć©lĆ©phants as the 11th prelude in Book 2, finally replacing it by a rather Stravinskian study Les Tierces alternĆ©es. However, his daughter Chouchou was fascinated by elephants and in the summer of 1913, Debussy wrote her a ā€˜Toybox Ballet’ (La BoĆ®te Ć  joujoux) which contains a ā€˜Pas de l’élĆ©phant’ and an ā€˜old Hindu chant which is still used to train elephants [in India]. It is constructed on the scale of ā€œ5 o’clock in the morningā€, which means it must be in 5/4 time.’ My reconstruction of this lost prelude is based around this material and it evokes a day in the life of Toomai, the young mahout, and his faithful elephant Kala Nag from one dawn to the next, incorporating the legendary ā€˜Elephants’ Dance’ from Rudyard Kipling’s First Jungle Book (1894) which only Toomai was ever privileged to witness. The version presented here is the revised second version of this prelude which contains an effect of piano harmonics as the dawn returns towards the end.

Piano Solo - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1442721 Composed by Karen Simmons. Children,Instructional. Score. 22 pages. For Hands Music #1022698. Published by For Hands Music (A0.1442721). A suite of early elementary pieces, all focused around the food students might find in their lunchbox. The suite begins with a prelude that ends on a dominant 7th chord. Two versions of the prelude are included so that the prelude can be followed smoothly by a piece in either a C pentascale or a G pentascale if the entire suite is not being used. Excellent for students learning through an intervallic method. Pieces only use 2nds and 3rds. Most pieces use a quarter note as the smallest note value, while some pieces have eighth notes in a repetitive pattern to help them learn the pattern. Works well for students using Piano Safari to provide supplemental pieces appropriate from the end of Level 1 through very early Level 2. Purchase of this PDF includes a studio license to use the suite with any of your students.

Score and individual part. 11 pages. Jmsgu3 #3491315. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552852). Schwencke There are two popular versions of the Bach-Gounod Ave Maria to consider. Firstly, we have the version that exactly follows the harmonic scheme set forth by J. S. Bach in his Prelude #1 in C Major from the Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1. Secondly, we have the arrangement introduced by the Choirmaster Christian Friedrich Gottlieb Schwencke in 1783 that introduces a controversial added measure designed to intensify the harmony in measure 27. Both versions employ the melody that Charles Gounod provided as an overlay to the Bach harmony. In either case, the convenient 1st & 2nd endings provide options for extended performance. The duration with the repeat runs about 4:50.Ā This arrangement follows the original Bach prelude and so excludes the extra measure that Schwencke introduced in 1783.
