This woodwind quintet arrangement turns the traditional French carol Patapan into a Patapan Fantasy, which also includes quotes from the carols God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen, Joy to the World, O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, We Three Kings of Orient Are, and Good King Wenceslas, representing carols from England, France, the Czech Republic, and the United States. It is perfect for all holiday events, gatherings, recitals, or caroling gigs. What appealed to me most about this piece was that it's pitched in a minor key, making it slightly different from most Christmas carols. These themes freely interplay with each other melodically and modally - often over a seven-beat rhythmic pattern found in many African and Native American songs.
