These lyrics, written in 1867, were a result of that evening. The church’s organist, Lewis Redner, composed the melody on December 23, 1868. The opposite of firm footing, stability, taking a stand is vacillating between ideas or chasing numerous ideas. ♫ I pictured the wind scattering leaves and debris, but failing to budge heavy objects, anchored to the ground. ♫ Our culture bids us chase after status, power, money, pleasure, thrills … The problem, of course is that the shelf life of the satisfaction that these things brings is very short. Chasing after status, power, money, pleasure, thrills, etc. is like is like chasing the wind. ♫ Portraying chasing the wind allowed me to use some contemporary classical composition techniques such as polymeter, polytonality, and deliberate dissonance. The first theme suggests the futility and inevitable frustration of chasing the wind. This is My Father’s World♫ piano solo arrangement by Stephen R Dalrymple♫ lyrics by Malthie Babcock with a traditional English melody adapted by Franklin Sheppard♫ Malthie Davenport Babcock, a pastor in upstate New York, was an athletic man who loved to walk near Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment. He often told his wife that he was “going out to see the Father’s world.� This phrase prompted the title for one of his original poems. His wife published his poems after his death in 1901 (age 42.) ♫ In 1915 Franklin Shepherd, his friend, adapted Babcock’s poem and an English folk tune to create the hymn. Shepherd named the melody TERRA BEATA (Blessed Earth). ♫ The original folk tune appears in the opening notes of the Shire Theme by Howard Shore in the Lord of the Rings Film Series.♫ The last stanza used in this video is seldom found in hymnbooks. Obwohl Koechlin bewusst war, dass keine Aussicht auf filmische Umsetzung bestand, entwarf er sogar ein Filmszenario in 20 Szenen, in dem er selbst in einer Doppelrolle erscheinen sollte! Im Alter von 66 Jahren sah er in einem Pariser Filmtheater die Schauspielerin Lilian Harvey als Prinzessin Marie-Christine in Princesse à vos ordres. Er war so verzaubert, dass er für sie die kleinen Stücke Le Portrait de Daisy Hamilton komponierte – hinreißende Miniaturen, die nicht als Filmmusik geschrieben, sondern durch Filmerlebnisse ausgelöst wurden. Von den unvollendet gebliebenen, auf zwei bis vier Linien notierten Kompositionen Le Portrait de Daisy Hamilton sind bei Schott bereits drei Hefte erschienen, nun publizieren wir zwei Bände mit je acht Stücken für Flöte und Klavier bzw. für Klarinette und Klavier. Zwei weitere Hefte (11 Stücke für Klavier und Streichquartett und 10 Stücke für Streichsextett) werden noch folgen. Rückert-Lieder (Songs after Rückert) is a collection of five Lieder for voice and orchestra or piano, based on poems written by Friedrich Rückert. The first four songs were premiered on 29 January 1905 in Vienna, Mahler himself conducting, together with his Kindertotenlieder (also on poems by Rückert). The set of songs was not intended as a cycle: the Lieder were originally published independently from each other, connected only by the poetry and common themes. However, they were later published together and most often have been performed together and come to be known as the Rückert-Lieder, although Mahler did set more texts of Rückert. This arrangement for brass quintet puts the singer's part for flugelhorn solo with the rest of the ensemble playing an adaption of the original's orchestra accompaniment. Using combination of mutes and open playing this arrangement archieves a differentiated sound that makes the complicated late-romantic harmony and counterpoint work really well in the stripped-down instrumentation.
