In my heart, I know that my redeemer lives is a setting of the funeral sentence from the Anglican and Episcopal Prayer Books.  The piece is suitable for funerals, but also for the Easter season, any occasions of memorial, or Sundays with readings about eternal life, resurrection, trust in God's goodness, or triumph over persecution.  This motet is scored for a cappella voices, with men and boys choirs in mind, but, of course, usable with any treble choir, or SATTBB ensemble.  The harmonies are lush, and for the most part, the piece is homophonic.  See the SATB version with optional divisi for a simpler arrangement.  Listen to the audio file to get an idea of the pace and sound of the piece.

Joaquín Malats's Serenata Española was premiered at the Salon Érard in Barcelona on 22 September 1891,[1] and was published by Zozaya a year later. Despite what it may seem from the initial title on the cover of the Suite Impresiones de España, this work was never performed as a suite for orchestra. Originally conceived as a collection in which the Serenade was the second of the pieces, only this one was published in addition to the first one: Danza. Joaquim Malats performed these two compositions in numerous concerts as part of the Suite Impresiones de España,[2] however, he neither published them as a unitary corpus, nor did the ochestral version see the light. He was from Dillingham, Alaska, which is famous for its runs of red salmon from Bristol Bay. I decided to depict the life cycle of a red salmon in music using the players he had gathered to play on his recital. Using the flugelhorn with the euphonium and cello makes for a wonderful rich and mello sound. I like the result of the original instrumentation, but the piece would also work well with trumpet and trombone instead of flugelhorn and euphonium.
