The familiar melody is now restructured into the gently asymmetrical 3+2+2 rhythm of a 7/8 meter. The music flows out, with that slight asymmetry giving an attractive lilt to the well-known tune. As with the rhythmic structure, the harmony is also reconsidered. Sonorities from related tonalities appear, providing new colors to enhance the well-known theme. The choral parts are attractive and singable, each part having a turn at the melody. Suitable for an intermediate to intermediate/advanced choir. Stewart (A0.1509625). “Kiss from a Rose”, written by Seal, first appeared on his self-titled album Seal II in 1994 - eight years after he wrote the song; and then two years after its initial release, it became a phenomenon.  Currently it has the distinction as one of the most sung karaoke 90’s tunes performed.  The lyrics, while passionate and lovely, are cryptic and have been the subject of debate since its release. That said, this arrangement simplifies the ‘power ballad’ to an uncomplicated madrigal-like folk-song setting.  It is scored for 4-part SATB ensemble with piano accompaniment.  Performance time: 4:20+-.
