2015 Piano Contest 'The Hill' is an area in Boulder to the immediate west of the University of Colorado. There are residential areas, shops, and restaurants there. I remember one night in the late 1960's going to bed to the sounds and flashing lights of police helicopters hovering over that area. Tensions had been mounting between merchants on the Hill and hippies, who would often be in big groups and block the entrance to shops. There was a standoff between them that night. Written for a production of the play Rope, the director wanted something older than the time of the play; piano rags would have been seen as nostalgic and even an oddity.  Since other music was written for the play, the title simply indicates the style.

2015 Piano Contest Mesa Trail runs from the west side of south-central Boulder down to the small town of Eldorado Springs, a few miles to the south. It's a lovely hike through beautiful woods, and in many places offers a great view of the plains out to the east.
