In time for the 200th birthday of Richard Wagner, Enjott Schneider has presented his 'Minuten-Tristan' in a version for two pianos. Originally composed for a dozen pianos, 'Minuten-Tristan' presents the highlights of Wagner's monumental work in a daring tour de force of no more than five minutes, bringing amazing things to light: The Tristan chord shows its true harmonic calling in the tango, while the opening bars lead to a lively ragtime and the tragic Liebestod occurs in bright three-four time. This piece is a witty parodistic tribute, full of humour and affectionate mockery, to the famous composer.This paraphrase on Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde was composed and spectacularly performed for the re-opening of the Prinzregententheater in Munich on 8 November 1996. A fast two-step rag from 1908.  The melody travels from section to section.  As a two-step rag, it is written to go fast, about 132 bpm.  This would be a good concert in the park piece as it is flashy, and fun to play and listen to.  It has wonderful parts for every instrument in the brass band.  It is a finger twister, but once the band has it under its fingers, it shines as a rag written 110 years ago and captures the ragtime feel.  It is a bit on the difficult size and will take some rehearsal even for the top bands.  Once the piece is worked up, and has been polished under a fine MD, it becomes something wonderful and worth the extra effort.

In times of climate change, an increasing divide between the rich and poor, and the squandering of precious resources I wanted to write something to remind us of the beauty and fragility of life on this awesome planet where we are privileged to live.The piece is a simple waltz in 3/4 time. The initial melody is repeated in two variations, then repeated again followed by the 2nd variation.When you play it, please think of our planet and how we must do everything we can to protect and cherish all of the life on it.
