The left hand accompaniment seems to consist of two triple time in a bar while the time signature is actually triple (per bar), creating an interesting aural experience when the melody is played against the meter. The simple but subtle melodic line is harmonised with slight dissonances unique to Ravel. The tension caused by the unusual rhythm and the dissonances makes it a beautiful and exotic piece. .
