Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1199167 By Kathleen Ryan. By Kathleen Ryan. Arranged by Kathleen Ryan. Classical,Contemporary,New Age. Score. 6 pages. Indigo Mesa Music LLC #798231. Published by Indigo Mesa Music LLC (A0.1199167). English folk song.I have set this melody in several arrangements; this is actually the most rambunctious of the lot! This is bravura piano playing and not for the faint of heart. The right hand has a long passage of double notes at 16th-note speed. The left hand plays 8th-note many-octave-spanning double notes for much of the arrangement, and then has double notes at 16th-note speed for the final section. To perform this will require a lot of practice and then sheer (relaxed!) bravado.Forest Green is really my all-time favorite melody. I anticipate setting it a dozen or more different ways. For example, this is the melody the English use for the Christmas carol O Little Town of Bethlehem, and I have arranged it more lyrically for that song. Perhaps someday it will make it onto a CD.I have also used this melody for the final section of my arrangement of All Through the Night on Under the Greenwood Tree. That is a far more lyrical arrangement as well. This melody, in a highly arranged version, also makes a cameo in These Hands Held Music, on Passages. All of these arrangements are currently available in pdf. Who knows, perhaps someday I’ll create an entire album of arrangements of Forest Green!~ Kathleen

Brass Ensemble Horn - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.931276 Composed by Alessandro Macrì. Baroque,Classical,Concert,Instructional,Standards. Score and parts. 10 pages. Music Macri Editions #6082045. Published by Music Macri Editions (A0.931276).

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.597602 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Flavio Regis Cunha. Concert,Graduation,Holiday,Romantic Period,Standards. Score. 12 pages. Flavio Regis Cunha #6712473. Published by Flavio Regis Cunha (A0.597602). It probably comes as a surprise to many to know that Beethoven wrote variations on the current British national anthem, as well as on a jingoistic tune sung every year at the BBC Proms. But indeed he did. In 1803 he was approached by George Thomson, a civil servant living in Edinburgh who was passionate about collecting folk songs from his own country. He wanted Beethoven to compose six sonatas on Scottish melodies-a project which never materialized, but which started a business relationship that lasted until 1820. For Thomson, Beethoven completed some 150 arrangements of Scottish, Welsh and Irish folk songs (including Auld lang syne). Towards the end of 1803, he sent him these two sets of variations for piano, saying they weren’t too difficult and hoping they would have much success.Concerning the 7 Variations on ‘God save the King’, WoO78, Beethoven made the comment that he wanted to ‘show the English what a blessing they have’ with that tune. We don’t really know who wrote it, but it became very popular in 1745 when it started being sung at Drury Lane and Covent Garden to celebrate the putting-down of the Jacobite rising. It travelled over to the Continent where in 1795 it became the royal anthem of Prussia (‘Heil dir im Siegerkranz’).It makes a great theme for variations, and Beethoven has a lot of fun with it. If ever you needed proof of humour in his music, here it is. After some counterpoint in variation 1, he gives us some nimble fingerwork to deal with before an expressive minor-mode variation that can also be played a bit tongue-in-cheek. He changes metre for variation 6, a perky march, and stays in that time signature for variation 7. A lot of the difficulty of this piece depends on the tempo you choose at this point. The coda is inspired: a brief cadenza-like descent of F major broken chords leads us into a solemn return of the theme, but with some piquant and mischievous harmonies. The final allegro brings the work to a bravura conclusion.

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.926712 Composed by James E. Goodwin. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 238 pages. James Goodwin #5996663. Published by James Goodwin (A0.926712). Scenes from the Sea is a suite in five movements for full orchestra, each of which lasts approximately three minutes, except for the last movement which lasts five minutes. Movement One, entitled Schools of Fish, is a brisk opener that symbolizes the sea as a whole, teeming with life. Movement Two is called Shipwrecks. The music is contemplative and represents the multitude of ships that rest at the bottom of the sea, many of which are the graves of brave sailors. Movement Three is a march called Fighting Crabs, and is about two crabs who fight to the death for food. In Movement Four, The Abyss, the listener descends to the depths, whereupon he/she finds a peaceful rest. The last movement, A Squall, begins calmly, but a foreboding storm in the distance threatens to takes away the calm. The Navy Hymn, Eternal Father, Strong to Save, is heard just before the storm strikes. Finally, the calmness returns and the piece ends triumphantly. Scores and parts are included for full orchestra, including piano. Full program notes are available from the composer.

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1420325 Composed by Travis Patton. Arranged by Travis Patton. Celtic,Chamber,Contemporary,Folk,Instructional,Irish. 24 pages. Travis Patton #1001793. Published by Travis Patton (A0.1420325). Sissy Britches is an original composition arranged for string orchestra or string quartet. This piece begins like a dramatic symphony which will seem familiar to some students, but then it kicks into a minor Celtic reel (Celtic dance in common time). First violins will enjoy the fast fiddling melody and string crossings, while the other sections enjoy syncopated rhythmic accompaniment. The reel shifts into an old time (a style of bluegrass) melody and includes the cello and bass sections playing the melody. A chorale-like section gives students a break from fiddling and a chance to employ delicate legato playing. It concludes with the reel melody in the upper strings, while the lower strings carry a heavy quarter note drive. The quick fugue-like outro provides another technical moment for the orchestra, containing a flashy finish.Composed and Arranged by Travis Patton. Find more at www.travispatton.com.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.909896 Composed by Christopher Benfield. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Score. 2 pages. Christopher Benfield #6202235. Published by Christopher Benfield (A0.909896). Using five poems about words by Bo Burnham from his book Egghead, this collection of somewhat satirical songs is in the 12-tone serial aesthetic. Each song has a unique matrix, each of which is also included in this collection. In the words of the composer, each song is meant to focus more on the individual words that make up the poem that is supported by the music. This oddly fun collection is perfect for any recital or performance that has a contemporary or modern theme. The Letter is about the singer's feelings for someone, manifesting in them speaking about what they have written for them. Each phrase becomes a little more unraveled, exhibiting the singer's mental unraveling.

Brass Ensemble Euphonium,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.755012 Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Patriotic. Score and parts. 52 pages. Sy Brandon #3240599. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.755012). This work was commissioned by the Euphouria Quartet. The composition reflects the composer's feelings about the tragic events of that fateful day. The first movement, Fanfares To Fallen Heroes, is a tribute to the brave firemen, policemen and rescue workers who tirelessly and fearlessly risked and sacrificed their lives in order to save the lives of others. The movement is permeated with fanfare motives that reflect both the bravery displayed and the danger that these people faced. The second movement, Elegy To The Innocent, is a tribute to all the innocent victims and their loved ones who have suffered at the hands of the terrorists. The outer sections have a dirge-like rhythm underpinning a sorrowful melody. The middle section contrasts the dirge by giving a sense of comfort to all that have suffered. The third movement, Justice, represents the struggle and resolve of the United States of America and its allies to eliminate terrorism. Battle motives alternate with a heroic theme throughout the movement. The last movement, Prayer For Peace, represents a hope that all the people of the world can achieve the tolerance and understanding we need to live in harmony and in a civilized manner. The chaconne form is used to represent the uniting of voices as the prayer grows in intensity from beginning to end. A recording by the Euphouria Quartet is available on an Emeritus Recordings CD entitled Echoes – Music for Tuba and Euphonium Ensembles by Sy Brandon and Mark Scott.

Greenberg (A0.987853). Preferred Contact Information: RMonteverdi@comcast.net Performing Rights Organization: BMI Website: robertgreenbergmusic.com Facebook Band Page: facebook.com/RobertGreenbergMusic Duration: ca. 21 minutes Year of composition: 1996 Program Note: I. Toccata/Hands of Steel II. Strum/Serenade III. O Tanenbaum (Toccata reprise) IV. Two-Part Contention V. John Doe VI. True Pluck A number of years ago, the great English guitarist Julian Bream told David Tanenbaum - the dedicatee of tonight's premiere - not to premiere a guitar work unless he knew for a fact it was the composer's second guitar work. Sage advice. The guitar is an instrument that gives up its secrets to a non-guitar playing composer only reluctantly. Indeed, the timbral, digital and chordal subtleties of this most subtle and intimate instrument are truly understood by the guitarist only. Pity the outlander who composes for the guitar for the first time! With this last thought in mind I had, until last fall, managed to avoid writing a guitar piece. However, even the most abject compositional coward will relent when a musician like David Tanenbaum asks for a piece and offers his assistance and critical judgement in its composition. So it was with PLUCK, composed between November of 1995 and January of 1996. Bream's advice notwithstanding, PLUCK is my first guitar piece. Tanenbaum is brave. The title, PLUCK, thus refers to both the action of plucking strings as well as pluck - bravery, grit, true grit. PLUCK is written in six interrelated movements. The first movement, Toccata/Hands of Steel introduces much of the essential pitch and harmonic material of the piece, as well as Flamenco-style rasgueado strumming which, try as I might, I could not resist using. Movement two, Strum/Serenade, explains itself in its title. Movement three, O Tanenbaum (a designation for which David has forgiven me) reprises the Toccata and describes, well, a sort of musical tree (David has forgiven me for this, too). Two-Part Contention is a combatative, argumentative movement that pits the treble strings of the guitar against the bass. Movement 5, John Doe is a lyric and mysterious moment of rest before the manic finale. Movement 6, True Pluck, is a fast, furious and virtuosic finale. PLUCK is dedicated, with greatest respect and affection, to my friend David Tanenbaum. May he only want to play my second guitar piece.

Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533491). A lyric piece, celebrating Ali Ben Sou Alle's visit to Natal, which is now part of South Africa. One of the most enigmatic figures in the history of the Saxophone, Ali Ben Sou Alle (Charles-Valentin Soualle) was born in1820 in Arras, France. After receiving his first prize in Clarinet at the Paris Conservatory in 1844. he served as the director ofmusic of The French Marine Band in Senegal, and then was named first clarinet solo at the Opéra-Comique in Paris. However, after the Revolution of 1848, Soualle was forced to flee France to England where he settled in London, playing in the Orchestra of the Queen's Theatre. His songs and piano pieces were published in London. While in London, Soualle met another exiled French musician, Louis Antoine Jullien, who conducted a light music series inLondon. Jullien encouraged Soualle to take up the saxophone, and after modifying the instrument by adding a single octavemechanism (the modern system used today) and keys for the lower register, Soualle became known as a virtuoso and begantouring performing solo recitals (or mono-concerts, as they were called at the time) calling his modified saxophone the«turcophone ». He performed in all the European capitals and then traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Manilla, Java, throughChina and then to India where he finally settled in Mysore, becoming the director of the Royal Music for the Maharadjah. It wasduring this period that he converted to Islam and changed his nmae to Ali ben Sou Alle (or Ali, son of Soualle). Hesubsequently travaled to Ile Maurice, to French Polynesia, the Cap of Natal and the Cap of Good Hope. All of these voyageswere subjects of musical works which Soualle entitled Souvenirs de... and may perhaps have been part of a collection knownas The Royal Album which was presented to the Prince of Wales after a royal concert. Soualle returned to Mysore in 1858 and was almost killed in the Indian Revolution.Around 1860, Soualle returned to France for health reasons and began publishing his own music. On March 27 1865, heperformed a command performance for the Emperor Napoleon III at the Tuileries Palace in the presence of the entire ImperialFamily. After 1865, nothing more is known about him.
