Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1417808 Composed by Maurice Ravel. Arranged by Thomas Ling. 20th Century,Instructional. Score. 5 pages. Thomas Swee Chin #999349. Published by Thomas Swee Chin (A0.1417808). The rearrangement of notes will prove to be easier to play musically though it may not be easier to read. The original arrangement of the notes are provided for comparison.  This piece was written for the sight reading test at the piano competition at the Paris Conservatory in 1913. The harmony is definitely of the 20th Century with flexible rhythm and a unmistakenly with a Ravel sound albeit a simple piece comparatively. It will serve as a good introductory lesson to Ravel's style.Bonus piece is by yours truly.

4fl. Afl. Bfl. Cafl. Cbfl - Intermediate - Digital Download SKU: F2.FM400 Composed by Maurice Ravel. Arranged by Robert Rainford. Arranged for Flute Ensemble/Choir - 4 Flutes, Alto Flute, Bass Flute, Contr'alto Flute, Contrabass Flute. Score and Parts. 12 pages. Forton Music - Digital #FM400. Published by Forton Music - Digital (F2.FM400). ISBN 9790570482993.Flute Ensemble (4 flutes, alto flute, bass flute, contr'alto flute, contrabass flute). Maurice Ravel wrote this exquisite miniature piece originally for piano in 1909, to mark the centenary of the death of the composer Franz Joseph Haydn. Ravel has used the letters of Haydn's name to give him the initial theme of the piece at the very start (flute 1 of this arrangement). B natural represents H, A and D represent their own letters, the next D represents the letter Y, and the final G represents N. This theme then weaves through the whole piece in various versions, sometimes upside down, and sometimes backwards. Many composers have used this method of using letters to give melodic pitches, from Josquin back in the fifteenth century all the way through to such twentieth century composers as Shostakovich, Messiaen and Elliott Carter. This arrangement uses just about the full range of flutes, including contr'alto and contrabass. Each flute has it's own independant part, and the 'HAYDN' theme is shared between them all.Whilst not technically difficult, it needs sensitive playing to balance the parts, and a strong sense of musical colour to make the most of the piece.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1392483 Composed by Erik Satie. Arranged by Steven Paxton. 20th Century,Chamber,Classical. 32 pages. Creative Spirit #976004. Published by Creative Spirit (A0.1392483). Transcription for woodwind quintet of the work originally composed by Erik Satie in 1914 for solo piano. By this time in his career Satie was filling his scores with non-standard performance instructions, satiric barbs and modernist prose, scattered about on a carefully, expertly fashioned musical structure of experimental harmonies, strangely static rhythms, and radically miniaturized forms. In the case of Les Trois Valses Distinguées du Précieux Dégoûté, Maurice Ravel was undoubtedly the target of Satie’s satire. Ravel was the Précieux Dégoûté (a revolting or jaded dandy, a fop), and Satie’s Trois Valses subtly derided Ravel’s popular Valses nobles et sentimentales, composed four years earlier. (Another set, Avant-Dernièrniers Penseés, is also published by Creative Spirit in a transcription for woodwind quintet.)TOTAL DURATION: about 3–1/2 minutes.
