The famous theme and one of the variations explore the subtle contrast between bassoon and English horn. The original repeats are opened up and scored differently, using contrasting colors and combinations of solo clarinet, solo flute, piccolo, and soprano saxophone. A repeated section first has a flute and oboe accompanied with clarinets, then a saxophone quartet on the repeat. One variation features a solo piccolo and bells. And a prominent pair of horns recalls the sound of Haydn's divertimenti for wind ensemble. Duration: approx. 6:00. Written for an adult community band, this challenging arrangement is appropriate for a university, college, or community band, or an adventurous high school wind ensemble. The term is used because horns 1 to 4 generally form the original horn parts. It would be strange to name them differently, because horn 2 is normally a low horn and will remain so. The solo horn plus horns 1 to 5 generally form the horn and wind parts in the original score. Horns 6 to 10 generally form the string parts in the original score. The timpani are additional, but I think they add extra color and depth to the score.

A deconstructivist building will have most of the elements of a traditional building. Some elements will be exaggerated (a window might be many times too large or too small) and some elements will be displaced (a doorway might be several feet from the wall, the roof might appear to float above the building). These preludes use similar techniques. Most of the elements of the original hymntunes are present but some are exaggerated, repeated many times, or used differently from the original. These chorale preludes use several unfamiliar techniques: slides between notes, arm vibrato, a doppler portamento, harmonics, and tremolos.
