Instrumental Duet Alto Saxophone,Instrumental Duet,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533115 Composed by Paul Wehage. Concert,Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 49 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #550767. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533115). The Concertino for alto saxophone and string orchestra was written for and is dedicated to saxophonist Nuno Miguel Silva. The work is in three movements. The first movement, “Introduction and Allegro†begins with an introductory passage which leads to an extended cadenza. The allegro uses a contrasting set of two themes, one of which is syncopated and dancelike, the other which is lyrical and expressive. The Aria which follows is in an ABA lied form with extended passage work for the soloist at the return of the theme. The Rondo-finale is a rollicking scherzo which is presented in a variety of forms, first in the saxophone and then in the violins, after several developmental passages and a final cadenza, returns to end the work with a final flourish. This item is the solo part with the piano reduction. The orchestral score is available for sale as another item. The orchestral parts are on rental from the publisher.

Harpsichord - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.862503 Composed by Michael Bomier. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 2 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #2032023. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862503). Thirds, seven-note scalar runs, and syncopation characterize this final entry in the series of Modal Inventions. The Locrian mode was not a true church mode. It was given that name by jazz musicians, who wanted a modal designation for each of the seven modes for every major scale. This piece uses cut-time, and a half-note figure as its subject. The countersubject is a scale. Each exposition and its reverse end with a syncopated series of thirds, like the E Major Invention of Bach. These elements mix and match themselves through the piece, which ends on a B7 chord without a 3rd or 5th degree, giving the finale its ambiguous, Locrian sound. All nine inventions make a nice program for the opening of a three-element recital. They also make an excellent introduction into the world of modern music, since the two-part invention format is familiar, and the scalar aspect is also a musical staple throughout the eras, even though the modal derivatives rather than the parent major scales are used. Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1292495 By Brian Golden. By Brian Golden. Arranged by Brian Golden. Classical,Contemporary. Score. 4 pages. Brian Golden #883013. Published by Brian Golden (A0.1292495). Prelude 23 in G Major Lydian from 24 Preludes for the Piano in Major and Minor Modes by composer Brian Golden   The creative concept in writing these preludes is to provide a link to past preludes written for the keyboard, and in particular to the works of J.S. Bach and Frederic Chopin, whose works stand as essential repertoire for any student of the piano.  Using Bach’s and Chopin’s examples, my goal was to compose in all twenty-four keys, yet offer my own variation on the progression of key signatures – Bach’s being a pattern of major to parallel minor progressing chromatically through all keys, and Chopin’s a pattern of major to relative minor keys progressing clockwise through the circle of fifths.  In order to expand my harmonic and melodic possibilities, I have included the modal keys rather than only the major and harmonic minor keys, and have chosen to work counterclockwise through the circle of fifths, which is a more natural harmonic progression.  Therefore, all major preludes resolve from one to another V-I, as well as do all the minor preludes.    While there are seven modal scales, I decided to leave out the locrian modes for the following reasons.  First, due to the diminished fifth, the locrian mode cannot be thought of as either major nor minor.  Second, the locrian mode did not have a relative key to pair with, since there were no other keys with the identical characteristic notes.    In creating the key architecture, I determined that there was only one solution to pairing major and relative minor scales based on a shared parent key and characteristic note - ionian/aolian, mixolydian/phrygian and lydian/dorian.  This specific order of modal scales is the only order that would enable composing in all twelve key signatures.  Finally, the inspiration for each prelude came from playing through several other preludes in the same keys - mostly by Bach and Chopin - and letting their themes and styles influence me in the writing of my own.

I chose places and themes that were compelling for me for a variety of reasons. The first movement, Wupatki, is based on the feeling of expanse and solitude I experience when I am visiting this ancient pueblo and the stunning vistas of the Painted Desert. The Song of Friendship, a charming and simple tune was introduced to me by Gary Gorman, a Native American student of mine in the early 1990’s. I fashioned a simple arrangement and composed some original tunes to accompany it. This movement is dedicated to my colleague, clarinetist Michael Sullivan, who was dying from a rare form of cancer during the days I was finishing this movement. The day I finished the piece, I realized that it needed to end as if it never had a chance to finish, much like Michael’s life that was so tragically cut short. Quite by chance, the music ends at bar 43-the exact number of years of Michael’s brief life. Wind, title of the third movement, was composed to give musical interpretation to this element of relentless fury we experience during several months out of the year in this region. It springs up then dies down, only to resurface with more force and resilience.
