Sylvia Miles #4890417. Published by Sylvia Miles (A0.977674). In Provençal, La Marcho di Rei.This is a carol of Provençal origin, celebrating the Epiphany. The words are attributed to Joseph-François Domergue, 1691-1729, the cure of Aramon. The text was published for the first time in the Recueil de Cantiques Spirituels Provençaux et François, 1749. The origin of the melody is unknown, but it seems to have been current in the C17. It was an established custom at that time to set new words to well-known tunes. Bizet found the tune in a book published in 1864, and pinched it for his L'Arlésienne, 1872.The basses (and tenors) get to sing like drums!
