A very popular number for weddings, also effective for meditations and recital encores. Carl Bohm Carl Bohm, sometimes spelled with a K as in Karl Bohm, was born in 1844 and died in 1920. Bohm was a German composer, pianist, and songwriter. He was famous for writing songs with a light and optimistic atmosphere. Some of his most famous songs are Calm as the Night, Twilight, May Bells, Enfant Cheri, and The Fountain. In addition to his songs, he was a very popular composer of string quartets and string trios. His music was very popular and profitable. His publisher used some of the profits from sales of Bohm’s work to prepare the works of Johannes Brahms for publication. Output He certainly was prolific, not only with individual compositions but collections and albums of original music, such as the Bohm Album for the Pianoforte. The quality of his melodies is remarkable. They have a familiar quality similar to folk-songs. It’s no wonder they have become so popular.   His greatest masterpiece may well be the famous Calm as the Night as it is so well finished and refined. This song comes to us from a collection known simply as Lieder Op. 326. Calm as the Night (Still wie die Nacht) is listed as Number 27 in the collection. The song is scored for vocal duet and piano. Some slight revisions allow the rather limited harmonic language to better line up with common practice theory. The melody of the spiritual is given to the right hand throughout, with variation coming through the left-hand accompaniment. The refrain is presented twice, first with a dotted-rhythm Alberti bass and then with dotted-rhythm repeated octaves. The verse is set once, with the accompaniment doubling the melody two octaves lower and with a G-pedal point throughout. The last few measures include rising chromatic major chords covering the span of an octave before returning to the G-major tonic.

[mi?? r?dino], translated as Dear Motherland or Dear native land) is the current national anthem of Bulgaria.There are alternative versions for Symphony & Brass Quintet in my stores.It is based on the music and text of the song Gorda Stara Planina by Tsvetan Radoslavov, written and composed as he left to fight in the Serbo-Bulgarian War in 1885. The anthem was adopted in 1964. The text has been changed many times, most recently in 1990.Between 1886 and 1944, the Bulgarian national anthem was Shumi Maritsa (???? ??????); from 1950 to 1964, it was My Bulgaria, land of heroes (Balgariyo mila, zemya na geroi, ????????? ????, ???? ?? ?????); in the brief period between these two, it was the march Republiko nasha, zdravey (????????? ????, ???????!).Originally written and composed by a Bulgarian student in 1885, as he went off to fight in the Serbo-Bulgarian war, the song was titled “????? ????? ???????” (“Gorda Stara planina”) [Proudly Rise the Balkan Peaks]. St Paul's Suite (Op. 29, No. 2), originally titled Suite in C is a composition for string orchestra by the English composer Gustav Holst. It was written in 1912, but owing to revisions was not published until 1922. It is named after the St Paul's Girls' School in the United Kingdom, where Holst was Director of Music from 1905 to 1934. It was written in gratitude to the school, which had built a soundproof studio for him. This suite is the most famous of the many pieces he wrote for students at St. Paul's. Published by Ondine Press (A0.866108). This is the piano vocal score to an arrangement of the 5th movement of Mahler's Third Symphony, Es Sungen Drei Engel from Des Knaben Wunderhorn. This arrangement is one of 4 versions by Yoon Jae Lee, the curator of the Mahler Chamber Project. Version D is solo voice (alto solo). This version omits the boy’s (children’s choir) and women's chorus allowing for performances of this work to be sung by only one singer. The vocal is nearly identical to Mahler's original Lieder version but the revisions made to the final symphonic version, both rhythmic and structural, have been incorporated into this arrangement. Given the wide tessitura of the vocal part, it may be a stretch to say that it is ideally suited for alto. A few ossia parts with lower notes are given where the voice goes to a high register. This arrangement can be performed as a stand alone work with piano, or with Yoon Jae Lee’s reduction for chamber orchestra or with Mahler’s original forces.
