Tenor voice solo, SATB choir unaccompanied - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8478-E Composed by John David Earnest. 12 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8478-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8478-E). English, Italian. The conductor of Choral Arts Northwest, Robert Bode, asked the composer to write a work based on a text about The Blessed Virgin Mary. The final poem in Petrarch's most famous work, Il Canzoniere, was chosen, because it is a prayer to the Blessed Virgin. The composer first quotes a melody by Guillaume Dufay (1397-1474,) and then continues with his own interpretation of the poem, simultaneously using both the original Italian and its English translation, and a few other references to Dufay's music. Duration: ca. 5:20A review of CANW's performance of this piece comments: Perhaps the heart of the program came with the premiere of John David Earnest’s ā€œVergine Bella.ā€ This gorgeous work caught up the listener from the start, the choir softly singing the first phrases on one note, while the solo tenor came in soaring above them in a beautiful melody..

Mixed choir (SATTB/SATTB), soloists (SSAATTBB) and orchestra - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q21219 Marienvesper. Composed by Claudio Monteverdi. This edition: study score. Choral music - Ernst Eulenburg - Score. Eulenburg Miniature Scores. Downloadable, Study score. Duration 70 minutes. Ernst Eulenburg & Co. GmbH - Digital #Q21219. Published by Ernst Eulenburg & Co. GmbH - Digital (S9.Q21219). Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610 is a work which has both fascinated and perplexed musicologists and performers for many years. It forms by far the larger part of the composer's first significant publication of sacred music, entitled: 'Of the most blessed virgin a Mass for six voices for church choirs, and Vespers for more voices with several sacred concertos suitable for princely chapels or apartments'. By the time this publication appeared, Monteverdi had been in the service of the Gonzaga court at Mantua for at least 18 years, and he was seeking a change of employment, so that the dedication of the volume to the reigning pope, Paul V, may be interpreted as a form of self-advertisement. Originally issued as an Urtext study score, the edition is based closely on the extant printed source, the set of partbooks published at Venice in 1610, and retains the original note values, key and mensuration signatures.
