Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1394832

Composed by Richard Addinsell. Arranged by Timothy Stapay/Liberace. 20th Century,Classical,Film/TV,Singer/Songwriter,Standards. Score. 12 pages. Timothy Stapay #978316. Published by Timothy Stapay (A0.1394832).

Warsaw Concerto is arranged as performed by legendary pianist, Liberace.  This is the same version that he performed on his t.v. show and in concerts in Las Vegas and around the world.   Now for the first time; you can learn to play this awesome and dramatic music in the same flamboyant style as Liberace!

The Warsaw Concerto is a short work for piano and orchestra by Richard Addinsell, written for the 1941 British film Dangerous Moonlight, which is about the Polish struggle against the 1939 invasion by Nazi Germany. In performance it normally lasts just under ten minutes. The concerto is an example of programme music, representing both the struggle for Warsaw and the romance of the leading characters in the film. It became very popular in Britain during World War II.

The concerto is written in imitation of the style of Sergei Rachmaninoff.

The composer, Richard Addinsell, was born in London and initially studied law before turning to a career in music. His time at the Royal College of Music was brief, as he was soon drawn to musical theatre, and he also wrote for radio, but his most memorable contributions are to a series of film scores beginning in 1936. He wrote the music for the 1939 film Goodbye, Mr. Chips, the original movie, Gaslight.

Władziu Valentino Liberace(May 16, 1919 – February 4, 1987) was an American pianist, singer, and actor.  He was born in Wisconsin to parents of Italian and Polish origin and enjoyed a career spanning four decades of concerts, recordings, television, motion pictures, and endorsements. At the height of his fame from the 1950s to 1970s, he was the highest-paid entertainer in the world!

Composed by Richard Addinsell. Arranged by Marcus Martin. 20th Century,Classical,Film/TV. Score. 17 pages. Cornelius Edition (uk) #1038157. Published by Cornelius Edition (uk) (A0.1459184).

The complete solo piano part.  This is the soloist's part for performance with the orchestration available as D 1038140   Orchestral cues are included, so this is useful for pianists preparing for a concert with orchestra but  It is not suitable for solo performance.

This piece was  composed for the 1941 film 'Dangerous Moonlight', a World War II love story with a sweeping soundtrack to match the romance of the plot. The film’s producers apparently approached  Rachmaninov to compose the score, but when he declined, the score for Dangerous Moonlight  and the Warsaw Concerto  was composed by Richard Addinsell.

The composer’s unashamed use of indulgent harmonies and grand Romantic gestures goes a great way towards explaining why the Warsaw Concerto remains hugely popular today.

WARSAW CONCERTO
(A New Piano Solo Arrangement)

by Richard Addinsell

Arranged by Robert Van Horne

23 pages

Published by White Piano International Publishing 2020

As a graduate from the Philadelphia Musical Academy in 1971, I included in my repertoire light Classical piano music.

After watching the 1941 movie DANGEROUS MOONLIGHT and hearing the majestic and haunting piano and orchestra piece The Warsaw Concerto, I arranged this new advanced piano solo version.

There are 23 easy-to-read pages as well as patterned arpeggios that are different than the original score. The pages are clearly notated with suggested fingerings and sostenuto pedal markings. The damper pedal is not marked, but can be used at the discretion of the performer. Rubato, tempo and dynamic passages are indicated throughout the score.

This is a wonderful arrangement for advanced students, professional pianists, or piano teachers.

Composed by Richard Addinsell. Arranged by Marcus Martin. 20th Century,Classical,Film/TV. 67 pages. Cornelius Edition (uk) #1042259. Published by Cornelius Edition (uk) (A0.1463556).

Composed for the 1941 RKO picture Dangerous Moonlight by British composer Richard Addinsell, this one-movement work for piano and orchestra has a distinctly Rachmaninsese feel about it. This arrangement has the original piano part accompanied by a reduced orchestra of Strings alone. It would aslo be possible to perform this version with a string quintet. Ideal for film music concerts.  Score and parts included. Alternatively, a full orchestra version is also available as well as  the solo piano part.
