Baritone voice and piano - Moderately Easy - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8826-3E Composed by Gwyneth W. Walker. African American Heritage. 6 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8826-3E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8826-3E). English.I’ve Known Rivers is a multi-movement work, comprised of songs based on four different poems by Langston Hughes (1902–1967). Though he lived much of his life in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City, Hughes was born in Missouri and raised in Kansas, Illinois, and Ohio. At age seventeen, he traveled to Mexico to live with his estranged father. As he crossed the Mississippi River, he was inspired to write The Negro Speaks of Rivers, which begins “I’ve known rivers….,†and is the text for the first movement, “My Soul Has Grown Deep.†It reflects upon rivers of historic and geographical importance—the Euphrates, Congo, Nile, and Mississippi. As the rivers have endured over time, so has the human soul. The waters—the blood—runs deep.In contrast to the universal message of the first song, “Troubled Water,†which uses the poetry of the same title, is contemporary and personal. Water becomes an image of the unsettled and uncertain nature of love. The journey of love is a journey of troubled water. There is no resolution.Undaunted by the elusive nature of love, the poet, heard via the chorus, turns flippant, displaying a persevering and humorous outlook in “Jump Right In!†(to the river) from Hughes’ poem Life is Fine. Romantic misadventures will not conquer the spirit. “I could’ve died for love, but for livin’ I was born.â€â€œIn time of silver rain,†once more using the poem of the same title, is a song of healing. With the regeneration of spring, the poet marvels at the wonder of life.Though intended to be performed as the complete multi-movement work I’ve Known Rivers, each song may be performed separately. String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1514903 Composed by Azul Blatter. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical,Contemporary. 36 pages. Editorial Copistas Acuario #1089397. Published by Editorial Copistas Acuario (A0.1514903). The editorial project “Escordaturas: New Latin American music for strings” was born from the concern of the Editorial Copistas Acuario, to expand its range of action after the successful publication of several volumes of Dominican historical and contemporary music.Always attached to a first Dominican and then Latin American identity and following our institutional objective of “promoting the sustainable development of the creative industry of the production, edition, publication and distribution of the national and regional musical heritage...” we proposed to develop this new series by opening a general call to all young composers of the region who wish to publish and promote through this Editorial works of their authorship for string instruments and ensambles. This numbered compilation of 10 works has been prepared to represent the diversity and high level of the new sound creation in Latin America. Hence, precisely, the symbol of the “escordatura” to visualize this richness of a continent that despite the idiomatic differences of each country, manages to form an identifiable, valuable and striking cultural entity. It is with immense enthusiasm that we present this first installment, which includes music from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Mexico, Ecuador and Venezuela; where the stylistic variety of each composer converges with languages that range from tonal and impressionist music to experimental and postmodern proposals. With the opening of this new series, the Editorial Copistas Acuario deepens its position in Latin America and expands its catalog, hoping to achieve in the future its consolidation as the publishing house of Latin American music to the world.

Piano Solo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1478307 Composed by José De Jesús Ravelo. 19th Century,Classical,Historic,Romantic Period. Score. 52 pages. Editorial Copistas Acuario #1055685. Published by Editorial Copistas Acuario (A0.1478307). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The present publication of the “Pita” waltz suite, by the renowned Dominican composer Jose? De Jesu?s Ravelo, is based on the first edition of the work made in 1897 with the musical print designed in Leipzig by C. G. Ro?der. This collection of waltzes is dedicated to the composer’s then fiance?e, Miss Josefa de la Fuente, known as “Pepita”, whom he would marry in 1902. In addition, it is documented the composer’s intention to raise funds with the edition of this work and allocate them to the project of the Independencia Park in Santo Domingo. Hence the inscription “mi ofrenda al Parque ‘Independencia’” on the cover, which we have decided to recreate as a tribute, also including a reinterpretation of the original illustration allegorical to the Dominican independence. Therefore, in addition to being one of the first known printed editions of Dominican music, the “Pita” waltz suite is also circumscribed to the history of the development and expansion of our capital city, linked to the process of construction of one of its most important landmarks. We are grateful for the initiative of the Fundacio?n Copistas Acuario for reissuing this work as a result of its continuous work to rescue the national musical heritage. Now, let’s delve into this story of a young Ravelo in love and let’s be moved along with him by the music that inspired his love.

2 Pianos,4 Hands,Piano Duet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.972673 Composed by James Siddons. Contemporary,Folk,Jazz,Spiritual. Score. 25 pages. James Siddons Music and Writings #6698569. Published by James Siddons Music and Writings (A0.972673). Performance NoteSonata Hymnica No. 6 is scored for two pianos and three performers. One  performer (or player) sits at Piano I and may also serve as the conductor. At Piano II, Performer 1 plays from the treble  staff and Performer 2 plays from the bass staff. There are possible variations in this, such as having four pianos (two pianos  doubling the other two), or having two performers at Piano I, with Performer 2 playing only the bass-staff rhythmic pattern that  begins in measure 37. A standing conductor (not playing piano) may be desired.  Although repetitive, the music in this sonata rarely repeats itself  exactly; hence, further minor improvisations by the performers are appropriate, keeping with the improvisatory nature of oral  tradition. Program Note (for use in concert programs) by James Siddons  The Sonata Hymnica series by James Siddons consists of piano solos that explore the world of American hymns and  vernacular religious songs in the 1880-1920 era, when rural and small-town churches relied on pianos for music, and, in an age before microphones and amplification, the acoustics of wooden floors, walls, and high ceilings. These sonatas are not hymn arrangements but explorations of the sounds that can be created by a piano in a reverberant environment, all the while keeping in mind the essential message of the familiar words  sung to the various hymn tunes. Sonata Hymnica No. 6 is the first in the series to be for piano ensemble, and the second (after No. 3) to be based on the worship music of the 19th-century African American church. This sixth sonata also explores the singing world of the black congregation and choir as well as the piano. Their singing was shaped  by the sounds and intonations of the piano and the heritage of European music behind it, as well as the contours and cadences of the religious folk songs known as Spirituals. But the black congregations also sang hymns and choruses from the Classical tradition, and the Spirituals became the basis of many adaptations by white arrangers. Thus, we may speak  of  standardized adaptations of Spirituals as white black music, and black performance styles of Classical works as black white music. Piano ragtime music is a non-religious example of white music (the military march) made into black white music by the blending in of the syncopated rag rhythm. Sonata Hymnica No. 6 explores the intermingling of these two strains of American music as heard in the 19th-century black church. In his classic book The Souls of Black Folk (Chicago, 1903), W. E. B. Du Bois confesses to not being a musician but nonetheless finding himself enthralled by the music of the Southern 19th-century African Americans. He refers to their singing as the Frenzy or ‘Shouting,’ when the Spirit of the Lord passed by, and seizing the  devotee, made him mad with supernatural joy . . . stamping, shrieking, and shouting, the rushing to and fro and waving of arms,  the weeping and laughing, the vision and the trance (p. 116). On another page, Du Bois speaks of . . . the songs of my fathers . . . swelling with song, instinct for life, tremendous treble and darkening bass (p. 163). Sonata Hymnica No. 6 uses the African call and response form as well  as percussive polyrhythms.

Arranged by Marcos Fernandez-Barrero. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary,Film/TV,New Age. Individual part. 30 pages. Marcos Fernandez-Barrero #896802. Published by Marcos Fernandez-Barrero (A0.1307538). A solo piano work commissioned by Palau de la Música Catalana and funded by the Barcelona Creació Sonora to be premiered on the 28th September 2022 at Palau de la Música Catalana (Barcelona) by Alex Alguacil. Scenes is a musical composition comprising three distinct pieces: Loops, Resonances, and Phase. These works can be programmed independently or played consecutively without interruption to create a seamless, unified musical experience. Each of the three pieces draws its melodic inspiration and thematic ideas from Los Requiebros, the opening composition of Enrique Granados' Goyescas. In Los Requiebros, Granados skillfully incorporates a traditional Valencian tune known as La Tirana del Trípili to depict a romantic scene inspired by one of Francisco Goya's paintings. Goya's art served as a profound influence on Granados during this period. In Scenes, the aforementioned Valencian tune, along with various other elements rooted in the Spanish-Catalan piano school of Granados' era, is explored, dissected, reassembled, and blended with original ideas. This creative process results in three unique acoustic scenes where the central musical material is manipulated through looping, resonating, and phase shifting techniques. The resulting compositions provide a fresh perspective on the source material, offering a captivating journey through the world of sound, evoking a sense of timelessness and innovation.Scenes invites the audience to explore the rich heritage of Spanish-Catalan music while embracing contemporary approaches to composition and performance.

Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.513413 By Marcelo Borba. By Marcelo Barros de Borba. Arranged by Marcelo Borba. Country,Latin,Patriotic,Standards,Traditional. Score and Parts. 2 pages. Marcelo Borba #124181. Published by Marcelo Borba (A0.513413). The preciousness of Brazilian music can be appreciated in this arrangement on the Ijexá rhythm. A small 4-bar Looping for percussion practice. In this arrangement the following percussion instruments are used: Agogô, Afoxé, Atabaque and Alfaia. You can listen to the sound result on the audio available for free. Ijexá is available in full version and with its individual parts. The Ijexá rhythm is a musical form originating in Afro-Brazilian culture, specifically within the traditions of the Jeje people from the former Kingdom of Dahomey (now Benin). Also known as Jexá, Jeje, or Ijeji, Ijexá is often associated with Candomblé, an Afro-Brazilian religion. The history of the Ijexá rhythm dates back to the period of slavery in Brazil when Africans of Jeje ethnicity were brought to the country as slaves. They brought with them their culture, religious traditions, and, of course, their musical expressions. Ijexá is one of the musical manifestations of these people, which developed primarily in the Northeast and Southeast regions of Brazil. The Ijexá rhythm is characterized by a steady beat and a specific rhythmic pattern. It is played in binary meter, with emphasis on the second beat. Instruments used in the execution of Ijexá include atabaques (drums), agogô, xequerê, among others. The lyrics of the songs often address themes related to religion, ancestry, and Afro-Brazilian culture.Over time, Ijexá transcended its original religious context and became incorporated into other Brazilian musical genres, such as popular music, MPB (Música Popular Brasileira), and samba. Its influence can be heard in various compositions, including those by renowned Brazilian artists. The Ijexá rhythm carries a strong cultural and symbolic significance, representing the resistance and preservation of African traditions in Brazil. It is a musical expression that remains alive and present in Brazilian culture, contributing to the diversity and richness of the country's musical heritage.More: https://musicaead.com.br/ijexa-historia-e-cultura-popular/
