FROM THE PREFACEThe fourth volume of Renaissance music for classical guitar contains twenty mostly well-known and a few more rare intermediate Renaissance pieces taken mainly from lute and vihuela sources. I have tried to keep the upper level of technical difficulty to the contemporary grade VI level of the A.B.R.S.M. which takes the student to the advanced level (grades VII-VIII).The pieces are given in two versions, first as decorated pages in ordinary notation, and then the same pieces are again given in undecorated pages of notation and tablature. Therefore each volume contains two books in one and the choice is left to the user whether to keep the volume as presented, or to construct his own book by inclusion or deletion of unwanted pages, blank pages, etc, for use either as a printed or a tablet-screen book version. Grove #824946. Published by P.L. Grove (A0.1229040). This arrangement of the popular Linkin Park tune is for five octaves of handbells, two octaves of handchimes, and tenor or soprano voice. The handbell part is not difficult (probably rated a Level 2 by handbell standards) and could be easily achieved by most groups. Ensembles attempting this piece should try to play the bells in a more lyrical/less percussive style to get the best result. P.L. Grove decided to arrange this piece shortly after the suicide death of Linkin Park's lead singer Chester Bennington. There have been many suicides in subsequent months, and mental health is a key topic of concern. This song shines a light on the issue of suicide and reminds us that we should continue to care. Velocity Handbell Ensemble is performing this piece at its 20th anniversary concert in May 2023 and may be able to post a video on its YouTube channel.

Composed in 1889, It is one of a number of significant works for cello composed by French composer Gabriel Fauré. Élégie, Op.24 was conceived as the slow movement of a cello sonata. The sonata was never completed. Élégie was first performed in 1883 and later published as a stand-alone piece. The work features a somber opening then an intense central section before returning to the elegiac opening theme in C minor.Elegie is dedicated to the cellist Jules Loeb, who gave the first performances accompanied by the composer in December 1883. It was later orchestrated and performed at the Societe Nationale in April 1901, with Pablo Casals as the soloist and the composer as conductor.Fauré later orchestrated this work for cello and orchestra. Many other arrangements exist as solo with piano. This version is for solo baritone saxophone with piano. Difficulty level: advanced. The bari sax part extends well into the altissimo range. Alternate notes are provided in the part for performers who do not wish to play altissimo.
