Large Ensemble Bassoon,Clarinet,Double Bass,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.553878 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Holiday,Wedding. Score and parts. 22 pages. RayThompsonMusic #5215831. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553878). The Dolly Suite, Op. 56, is a collection of pieces for piano four-hands by Gabriel Fauré. It consists of short pieces written or revised between 1893 and 1896, to mark the birthdays and other events in the life of the daughter of the composer's mistress. An orchestral version of the suite was scored in 1906 by Henri Rabaud, and has, like the original piano duet version, received several recordings. The best-known section of the suite, the Berceuse, has been arranged for several combinations of instruments. In Britain it became famous as the play-out tune to Listen with Mother. The suite, consisting of six short pieces, each with its own title: Berceuse, Mi-a-ou, Le jardin de Dolly, Kitty-valse, Tendresse and Le pas espagnol. The complete suite takes about fifteen minutes to perform. This is my arrangement of movement.2 Mi-a-ouAllegro vivo. Mi-a-ou was written for Dolly's second birthday in June 1894. The title does not refer to a pet cat, as has often been supposed, but to Dolly's attempts to pronounce the name of her elder brother Raoul, who later became one of Fauré's favourite pupils. The young Dolly called her brother Messieu Aoul, which Fauré took as the original title for the piece. In his finished manuscript the title is shortened to Miaou (without hyphens). The Fauré scholar Robert Orledge writes that the title Mi-a-ou, like that of the Kitty-valse later in the suite, is the responsibility of Fauré's publisher, Julien Hamelle.[

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1255189 Composed by Percy Aldridge Grainger. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Celtic,Folk,Irish,Traditional. 9 pages. RayThompsonMusic #848753. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1255189). Grainger’s arrangement of the Scottish song The Caledonian Hunt’s Delight became Ye Banks and Braes O' Bonnie Doon. The river Doon flows gracefully between the Loch Doon and the Firth of Clyde in Stirlingshire, Scotland. It was inspired by Robert Burns poem, The Banks of Doon, written in 1783.The piece was originally scored in 1903 for a chorus of women’s unison voices, accompanied by men’s voices, whistlers, and harmonium or organ at will. This was one of Grainger’s earliest folk-music arrangements, and it was dedicated to his dear friend Sigurd Fornander. The setting for band was completed in 1932 (British Folk-Music Setting No. 32).Arranged wind quintet, based on the wind band version.I have changed the key from Grainger's original in F, up to G to avoid the oboe soloist playing loads of Middle Cs!Video link is my clarinet quintet arrangement.Check out my wind dectet arrangements of his Lincolnshire PosyI have arranged more of his works for wind quintet:There was a pig went out to dig and for dectetSussex Mummers Carol

Bassoon,Clarinet,Double Bass,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1192050 Composed by John W. Bratton. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Children,Comedy. 41 pages. RayThompsonMusic #791552. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1192050). Arranged symphonic wind dectet/bass.The Teddy Bears' Picnic is a song consisting of a melody written in 1907 by American composer John Walter Bratton, and lyrics added in 1932 by Irish songwriter Jimmy Kennedy. It remains popular in the United Kingdom as a children's song, having been recorded by numerous artists over the decades. Kennedy lived at Staplegrove Elm and is buried in Staplegrove Church, in Taunton, Somerset, England. Local folklore has it that the small wooded area between the church and Staplegrove Scout Hut was the inspiration for his lyrics.Bratton composed and personally copyrighted it in 1907, and then assigned the copyright to M. Witmark & Sons, New York City, who published it later that year as The Teddy Bears Picnic: Characteristic Two Step, according to the first page of the published piano score, as well as the orchestral parts Witmark published in an arrangement by Frank Saddler. However, the illustrated sheet music cover gives the title as THE TEDDY BEARS' PICNIC, with apostrophe on BEARS and no genre descriptor. Irish songwriter Jimmy Kennedy wrote the now familiar lyrics for it in 1932.After Bratton wrote The Teddy Bears' Picnic, however, many people felt that the composer plagiarized portions of the melody. Music aficionados pointed out in particular that the refrain echoed the theme from Robert Browne Hall's 1895 Death or Glory March. Nevertheless, charges were not filed and Bratton's song still has the same tune it had in 1907.

Bassoon,Clarinet,Double Bass,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1488743 Composed by Johannes Brahms. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 19th Century,Romantic Period. 20 pages. RayThompsonMusic #1065594. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1488743). The two Serenades, Op. 11 and 16, represent early efforts by Johannes Brahms to write orchestral music. They both date from after the 1856 death of Robert Schumann when Brahms was residing in Detmold and had access to an orchestra.Brahms had a goal of reaching Ludwig van Beethoven's level in writing symphonies, and worked long and hard on his first symphony, completing it only in 1876 when he was 43 years old. As preliminary steps in composing for orchestra, he chose early on to write some lighter orchestral pieces, these Serenades. The second serenade was first sent to Clara Schumann, who was delighted by it. It was written in 1859 and dedicated to her.The first public performance, reportedly for full orchestra (version lost?), was in Hamburg on 10 February 1860.Brahms himself reworked the piece for piano 4 hands in 1875.The same year he revisited the orchestral version, this time for a small chamber orchestra. The new scoring was for :piccolo,2 flutes,2 oboes,2 clarinets (in A for movements I, IV, V; in C for movement II; and in B flat for movement III),2 bassoons, 2 horns, violas, cellos, and double basses.(omitting violins, brass, and percussion)The five movements take approximately thirty minutes to perform.Allegro moderato (A major)Scherzo. Vivace (C major) – Trio (F major) (This arrangement)Adagio non troppo (A minor, ends in A major with a Picardy third)Quasi menuetto (D major) – Trio (F? minor)Rondo. Allegro (A major)Arranged wind dectet/decet/double wind quintet and bass.Horns in C basso ( as in original) but alternative Horn in F parts provided. My clarinet parts are for Bb clarinets.

Flute, bassoon & piano - Digital Download SKU: IZ.CMS185 Composed by Marvin Carlton. Score and Parts. 47 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #CMS185. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.CMS185). 9 x 12 in inches. From 1995 until 2015, I would attend a week long workshop at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, for music educators from all over the world. During that time I became friends with an outstanding flutist and pianist, Steve Thompson, who said that he had a trio of flute, bassoon, and piano that would like a new work to perform. The following summer, I handed Steve the score and parts.Trio for Flute Bassoon and Piano received it's premiere performance in October, 2014, as part of the Fall Gallery Concert of the Centralia (IL) Cultural Society with Ruth Chaput, Flute; Janet Rose, Bassoon; and Barb Roberts, Piano. The first movement is a fantasia written in the style of a bel canto aria. The second movement is a fiery scherzo, and the final movement is a simple relaxed song for the three instruments.
