By Roberta Flack. By Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,Film/TV,Pop,Singer/Songwriter,Soul. 43 pages. John Ivor Holland #1026202. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1446392).

Killing Me Softly with His Song is a song by Charles Fox with lyrics by Norman Gimbel. The lyrics were written in collaboration with Lori Lieberman after she was inspired by a Don McLean performance in late 1971. Denied writing credit by Fox and Gimbel, Lieberman released her version of the song in 1972, but it did not chart. In 1973, it became a number-one hit in the United States, Australia and Canada for Roberta Flack, and also reached number six on the UK Singles Chart. In 1996, Fugees recorded the song with Lauryn Hill on lead vocals. Their version became a number-one hit in twenty countries and since then, the song has often been performed by Flack and Fugees together on stage. This version for concert band features cor anglais on the opening melody but plenty of opportunities for expressive playing throughout the band.

By Peabo Bryson & Roberta Flack. By Michael Masser. Arranged by Liz Garnett. Contemporary. Octavo. 6 pages. Liz Garnett #5218635. Published by Liz Garnett (A0.856243).

This classic love duet, originally sung by Roberta Flack and Peabo Bryson, clothes its message of devotion in a beautifully balanced melody, perfectly designed to show off the beauty of the voices that sing it. Accordingly, this arrangement for combined female and male quartets features the two leads as soloists, with the other six parts offering a lush harmonic backing. Occasional moments of homophony mark emotional focal points in the narrative.

It is notated for combined men's and women's barbershop ensembles (i.e. using treble, bass alta, treble bassa and bass clefs), and the list price includes permission to print 8 copies, one for each singer.
