Brass Quintet Euphonium,Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 5 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1407507

Composed by John Philip Sousa. Arranged by Matthew Nunes. Chamber,Classical,Historic,March,Patriotic. 22 pages. Matthew Nunes Music #990171. Published by Matthew Nunes Music (A0.1407507).

“Dedicated to Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt, In memory of the brave who gave their lives, That Liberty shall not perishâ€. The Golden Star is a symbol of sacrifice for many families, and Sousa appropriately incorporates Taps.

This Brass Quintet arrangement was made using “The President’s Own†United States Marine Band’s The Complete Marches of John Philip Sousa score as found at https://www.marineband.marines.mil/Audio-Resources/The-Complete-Marches-of-John-Philip-Sousa/. The Golden Star was composed in 1919, and the referenced edition was made Public Domain in 2019. The piece is catalogued as Volume 5, No. 90.

Section titles (such as “First Strain†and “Trioâ€) follow the measure numbers provided by that edition. Each instrument follows its full-band part as often as possible, the only exception being Trombone covering the Euphonium/Baritone part. Because of this, Euphonium/Baritone would make a suitable substitute.

By Various. By Ben Bernie and Maceo Pinkard. Arranged by Will Corbin. Jazz,Pop. 24 pages. Will Corbin #1044252. Published by Will Corbin (A0.1465639).

Ben Bernie and Maceo Pinkard wrote this soon-to-become jazz standard in 1925 and Bernie recorded it for the first time the same year with his Hotel Roosevelt Orchestra. There's some story about inspiration coming from a Georgia politician who sired a daughter, and the state legislature passed an act requiring him to name the girl Georgia (hence Georgia named her.) Right.
The song is probably best known as the one that played whenever the Harlem Globetrotters took the court.

Composed by Greg Bartholomew. 20th Century,Children,Concert,Contemporary. Score. 4 pages. Burke & Bagley #7785. Published by Burke & Bagley (A0.787299).

Composed in 2014, SEABISCUIT'S RUN is an homage to the champion racehorse. This one-minute piece is dedicated to Mexican pianist Joel Juan Qui, who will give the premiere performance in 2015. A small horse, Seabiscuit had an inauspicious start to his racing career, but became an unlikely champion and a symbol of hope to many Americans during the Great Depression. He didn't run the leave-'em-in-the-dust races of other famous horses, but liked to intimidate and tease his opponents by looking them in the eye and then finally leaving them behind. He never quit, in spite of his small size, odd gait, and serious injury. Seabiscuit's career culminated in the 1938 Match of the Century against War Admiral at Pimlico Race Course. War Admiral was the favorite but Seabiscuit won by four lengths, and Seabiscuit was named American Horse of the Year for 1938. According to some, he got more press in 1938 than Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill combined. A 2015 Piano Contest feature.

SKU: A0.1091973

Composed by John Dykes (1823–1876). Arranged by Dan Cutchen. Patriotic,Sacred,Traditional. Score and parts. 44 pages. Dan Cutchen Music #696104. Published by Dan Cutchen Music (A0.1091973).

This arrangement of the hymn, Eternal Father, Strong to Save (The Navy Hymn) utilizes a theme and variation treatment. It is somber, strong, and at times, serene and peaceful. This arrangement is of medium difficulty. The spotlight is on the low brass. There is also an arrangement of this piece for solo tuba and piano. Eternal Father, Strong to Save is a British hymn traditionally associated with seafarers, particularly in the maritime armed services. It was popularised by the Royal Navy and the United States Navy in the late 19th century, and variations of it were soon adopted by many branches of the armed services in the United Kingdom and the United States, including the United States Coast Guard and the United States Marine Corps. Owing to its nautical theme, this hymn has been played or sung at a number of funerals for those who have served in or been associated with the US Navy. Most notably, it was sung at the funerals of multiple US presidents, including Roosevelt, Richard Nixon, George H. W. Bush, and John F. Kennedy.

Composed by Abe Holzmann. Arranged by Keith Terrett. 20th Century,Contest,Festival,Historic,Instructional,Multicultural,World. Score. 9 pages. Keith Terrett #1035313. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1456161).

Abe Holzmann wrote some very fine marches, but here's one inspired by a book. Herbert Kaufman's 1910 book The Winning Fight inspired this winning march (it's a book about self-mastery and fostering a can-do attitude). Tiis march was published by Leo Feist in New York City in 1911.Arrangement of a March by Abe Holzmann (1874-1939),  writthn in 1911. He also wrote what is probably his best known march Blaze Away''.

Blaze Away! is a 1901 march by the German-American composer Abe Holzmann. It was his greatest success.

Holzmann was inspired by the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish–American War, when a command to American sailors to open fire on the Spanish fleet was reputedly met with the response Well boys, let's blaze away by the gunners. Building on the war fever in the United States, the cover of the sheet music featured an image resembling Theodore Roosevelt charging at San Juan Hill. Very popular as a two-step, its success outlasted the war and it became a repertoire piece amongst military bands around the world.

Abraham Holzmann (19 August 1874 – 16 January 1939) was an American composer, famous for his march Blaze-Away! Abraham Holzmann was born in New York City. His parents were Jacob Holzmann, a Hungarian-Jewish immigrant and Isabella Holzmann, a native of Louisiana. The young Holzmann learned music in Germany. A review originally published by the New York Herald on Sunday, 13 January 1901, entitled German Composer who Writes American Cakewalk Music describes [h]is knowledge of bass and counterpoint is thorough, and his standard compositions bear the stamp of harmonic lore, which makes his proclivity for the writing of the popular style of music the more remarkable. Abe married Isabelle Fishblatt around 1908, and he became the manager of the Orchestra Department at Jerome Remick & Company, music publisher in New York. He was an early member (1923) of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). He earned his livelihood as composer/arranger for Tin Pan Alley publishers, including Leo Feist. He later was advertising manager for the American Federation of Musicians publication, International Musician. He was a member of Freemasonry, the Elks, and Knights of Pythias, all in New York City. Holzmann died in East Orange, New Jersey at age 64. He was survived by his widow, a daughter Natalie Holzmann, three half-brothers, and four sisters. His music was especially revered by ragtime enthusiasts, although he composed marches, waltzes, and other light music. His 1899 composition Smokey Mokes was briefly featured in the 1936 movie San Francisco.
