Conceived in sadness but purposed as a joyful tribute, this piece takes its shape from the emotional journey between those moments. Inspired by Hope is a loving tribute to Jeanne Hope, Associate Director of the Golden Kangaroos Hornsby Concert Band (GKs). Jeanne passed away after a long illness in January 2018 aged just 53. Written by her friend and colleague this piece is both a personal response to the loss of a friend and a tribute to her legacy. Scored for Concert Band Grade 3 - 3.5, the set includes detailed program, rehearsal and teaching notes.

According to legend, Death appears at midnight every year on Halloween. Death calls forth the dead from their graves to dance for him while he plays his fiddle (here represented by the solo cornets). His skeletons dance for him until the rooster crows at dawn when they must return to their graves until the next year. Staying as true to the original as possible, with some minor alterations, this piece is sure to liven up any Halloween concert (If they are even a thing!). The piece has been arranged for a full brass band with 3-4 percussionists. Bass Clef parts included for Baritones downwards.

'Koala Lullaby' is an original piano solo with lyrics featured in Lynne Cox's 'Noah's Ark Series'. This series was created to introduce students to different musical styles and to global music. For the student what more fun guides could there be other than animals? Different animals in various locales introduce the student to numerous styles. In this piece the koala introduces the lullaby style. There is an 'Actual Factual' page on the back explaining in depth the theory of the piece and facts about the koala. These 'Actual Factual' pages are on the backs of all solos in this 'Noah's Ark Series' in hopes that the student can make a project of this in school in science or social studies culminating in his/her performance of the piece on a portable keyboard. 'Koala Lullaby' perfectly fits the animal that sleeps more per 24-hour period than any other animal, so it was easy to assign the lullaby style to him. One thinks of koalas and kangaroos when Australia is mentioned so this is the locale for both my koala and 'Joey the Wallabee Kangaroo'. This and other pieces in the series are great for recitals-especially animal or global themed and perfect for contests and festivals.

Program Notes: The fact that the text for this work even exists is a miracle. 
It was written by Abraham (Abramek) Koplowicz, a Jewish boy who was exterminated by the Nazis during the Holocaust. 
Abramek was born in 1930 in Lodz, Poland, and died 1944 in that country's infamous concentration camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau. 
He wrote this poem during the time that his family was trapped in the Lodz ghetto. 
This poem was not found until 1983 when Eliezer (Lolek) Grynfeld, the poet's half-brother, discovered it among their late father's belongings. 
Choristers who sing this work will be transported on a magical flight around the world through time and space along with their audiences.

When I am twenty years of age,
I will burst forth from this cage
And begin to see our splendid Earth
For the first time since my birth!
In my motorized bird I’ll soar so high
Above the world, up in the sky,
Over rivers and the seas, 
With such stupefying ease,

Marvel at the Euphrates and the Nile;
The goddess Isis ruled the land that links
The Pyramids and the massive Sphynx.
I will glide above Niagara Falls,
And sunbathe where the Sahara calls;
If I want to escape the scorching heat,

From the Island of Kangaroos

This piece was composed in Jan 2023, during my UK trip. When I was walking to the London Tower Bridge for visiting on the last day, a lady who may be hurrying for working kicked down me without any apologies. Instead, she spoke some abusive language which destroyed my holiday. THANKS for her kick, I got an idea for this piece…
