Composed by Sir Arthur Seymour Sullivan. Arranged by Catriona Melville-Mason. Concert,Opera,Standards. 15 pages. C Melville-Mason #6867583. Published by C Melville-Mason (A0.956673).
This tune comes from The Gondoliers, the twelfth of the Victorian comic opera collaborations between WS Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. The Gondoliers premiered in December 1889 and ran for 554 performances.
To be a Regular Royal Queen is part of the finale to Act 1. Two of the principal gondoliers and two of the contadine sing of what they perceive as the perks of being royalty – such as rich clothing, valuable possessions and being universally admired and respected.
The piece makes a joyful, appealing arrangement for the four-part mixed woodwind combination of 2 flutes, oboe and
either clarinet in B-flat
or bassoon. It has been classed as 'intermediate' as, although it appears quite challenging, various adult learner groups have managed it surprisingly successfully. To increase the difficulty, increase the tempo!
