Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1362638 Composed by Henry C. Work -1876. Arranged by Janice e Malan. Children,Contest,Festival,Folk. Score. 3 pages. Janice Malan #947065. Published by Janice Malan (A0.1362638). This is a favorite of students. It is a fun tune and also makes a great performance piece. The piece begins with a pick up note and the left hand is staccato. I would suggest have the student reviewing staccato notes and have them practice that for several measures. This will build up muscle memory and control needed for playing the entire song. Maybe practice hands alone, practice scales in staccoto or using a timed exercise to see how long the students can play staccato notes that sound good. Enjoy!

Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.808669 Composed by English Traditional. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Christmas. 20 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #3006801. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808669). Everybody gets a turn on this Christmas favorite! On the first time through, Trombone opens, playing alone, then Trumpet 1 joins playing close harmony. The second time through, Trumpet 1 has the melody while Trombone plays an intricate contrapuntal figure; Tuba joins towards the end with a harmony part. The third time, Tuba takes the melody, while Trumpet 1 and Trombone play counterpoint; eventually Horn in F blends in with harmony. The fourth time through, Horn in F has the melody, and Trombone and Tuba play counterpoint; Trumpet 2 joins on the last phrase. The fifth time through, Trumpet 2 again starts with the melody, while Trumpet 1 adds fanfare embellishments. All wind up with a straightforward, triumphant finish. And a good time was had by all! This arrangement was completed in 2012, and performance time runs about 2 minutes, 41 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, can be reached at lessmith@ufl.edu. Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1186382 Composed by Cesar Auguste Franck. Arranged by Kevin Hall. 19th Century,Chamber,Classical,Romantic Period. 17 pages. Eine kleine Saxmusik #786039. Published by Eine kleine Saxmusik (A0.1186382). Franck's Andantino in Ab (Pièces posthumes, No.33) - CFF 86This very sweet and lyrical melody originally written for organ (ca. 1858) sounds even warmer and more melodic played by string quartet or sax quartet.  Your audience will be rocking back and forth in their seats and smiling as they hum along with the gorgeous melody. While not a technically difficult piece, the song requires good blend and balance, and the lead part's range is somewhat challenging (playing to low Bb on the soprano or altissimo G on alto, sub for soprano).  I've also written an alternate alto sub part without altissimo notes for a more intermediate level quartet. The audio file is AATB, and starts at rehearsal letter E and plays to the end of the piece.

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1334145 Composed by Trad & Alan Edgar. Folk,Traditional. 36 pages. Alan Edgar Ted Moon #920362. Published by Alan Edgar Ted Moon (A0.1334145). Here'a suite about life in the Isle of Man based on Manx folk tunes and religious music.  All the harmonies and some decorations are mine. There are 5 movements. I MAINLY CELEBRATIONS:  I found all the melodies in The Mona Melodies, a group of traditional tunes (probably heard in Douglas) collected in 1820.  Hunt the Wren is a surprising, lively, traditional event on St Stephen's Day when villagers dance and sing round the town hoping for gifts. This tune is dorian.  A Lullaby in aeolian follows, then In Praise of Wine, in ionian, while at the same time fragments of the Lullaby are heard from inside a home.  The Wren group return.II FAITH Religious music  I assume could have been heard in Manx churches.  Two supposedly Celtic-style antiphon melodies from a 13th-century breviary from Caen  (a) The Holy Cross (b)  The Saints.  I made them into parallel organum with a drone.  Between them is an elaborate ancient melody (labelled Martyrs) for Psalm 80 (Lord, come and save us), which I found with Gaelic words.  I accompany with 3 more parts.  The whole movement is in dorian mode.III EMOTIONS:  Mourning for a Prince is a mixolydian tune also found in The Mona Melodies.  I give the tune to the viola.  In Praise of Beauty is sung by the cello in C major.  This tune is also found in The Mona Melodies, as Brown Oxen (Berry Dowin).  William Brown (Illiam Dhoan) (should be Dhone, I believe) is the air used for Love Lost and Found: again from The Mona Melodies.  I made it C minor at first (love lost) , then  the original version in F major (love found).IV CAR JUAN NAN (Let's All Dance) is a reel, from which I took a few bars and made it into a round.  My source was the book Ed. Colin Jerry Kiaull yn Theay 1:  Manx music and songs for folk instrumentsV WORK, REST and PLAY.  The Spinning Song is major/ionian, the Milking Song is major pentatonic, but my mooing bass part does not respect that: I found those tunes in  Kiaull yn Theay.   The Harvest Celebration Dance (Yn Mheillea) is from manxmusic.com.  The Goodnight Song (Arrane Oie Vie) was traditionally sung after a Christmas Eve event in the church, after more formal proceedings and after the singing of many gloomy vaguely religious songs there and a visit to the pub.  Collected from Mr E, Corteen and Mr T.  Taggart of Malew:  my source:  manxmusic.com.DURATION: 15 minutes.

Tenor voice solo, SATB choir unaccompanied - Moderately Difficult - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8322-E Composed by David Conte. Advanced/Collegiate. Secular, 21st Century, Americana, Children, Creation/Nature, Hope/Assurance. Instrument part. 15 pages. Duration 5 minutes, 42 seconds. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8322-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8322-E). UPC: 600313483226. English. The three a cappella choral pieces that comprise “A Whitman Triptych†were composed between 2012 and 2014. O Setting Sun was commissioned by the Madison Chamber Choir, Madison, Wisconsin, Anthony Cao, conductor, and was premiered on April 20th, 2012. “What is the Grass†was composed for Cappella SF, Ragnar Bohlin, conductor, and is being premiered on tonight’s concert. Facing West was commissioned in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge by the International Orange Chorale, Zane Fiala, conductor, and was premiered on May 27th, 2012. I first set Whitman to music in 1986,when I adapted part of “When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloomed†as the basis for my composition “Invocation and Dance.†I went on to set “Good-Bye, My Fancy†for Male Chorus and Soprano Saxophone in 1992, and “Song of the Open Road†for Mixed Chorus and Piano in 2004. Like so many composers, I have found the visionary quality of Whitman’s verse inspiring; the vigor and intensity of the poetry seem naturally to draw out music. “What is the Grass?†is also an adaptation of a much longer poem, one of Whitman’s deepest, and most mysterious. The poem begins as a child-like meditation on grass; as hope, as an embodiment of new life and new growth in the plant world. Then suddenly there is a somber turn with the line “And now it seems to me the beautiful uncut hair of graves.†Here Whitman enters an extended mediation on how grass connects life and death, informed by his experiences in the Civil War. Hope returns with the line: “They are alive and well somewhere,†leading to the mysterious final line: “And to die is different from what anyone supposed, and luckier…†Here Whitman affirms that death can be an initiation into a broader participation of existence. In the words of poet Ivan M. Granger, Whitman offers a “Zen-like riddle that doesn’t offer an answer so much as a pathway of questioning.†My musical setting follows Whitman’s exploration, first taking a child’s point of view, expressed with lilting melodies set in a lively compound meter. The entry of the tenor soloist indicates a change of mood to the serious. The first mood returns, leading to a climax on the words “And led forward life…â€, set in 9-part harmony. The mood turns reverent, as the tenor soloist intones: “All goes onward and outward; nothing collapses.†The piece ends with a tone of gentle, slightly ironic questioning. -David ConteDuration: 5:42
