Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899127 Composed by Richard Strauss. Arranged by Rod Whittle. 20th Century. Individual part. 4 pages. Maggie Creek Music #3037161. Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899127). Transcription for solo classical guitar. 4 pages. Richard Strauss (1864 -1949) Strauss's music amounts to a huge body of symphonic and operatic work written over 60 years. Full of vitality, endlessly melodic, brilliantly orchestrated, it begins and ends in the romantic tradition, but for the most part expresses something more modern and individualistic, not without controversy in its time. Variation of style and structure is drawn from the descriptive (literary) nature of compositions, and an extraordinary inventiveness enlivens the scenes, moods and situations. Strauss said once that he produced music the way cows give milk, and indeed his music rarely seems contrived. The opera Strauss wrote 15 operas on a variety of subjects and across the whole spectrum of drama. He acknowledged being enchanted by the soprano voice, and his writing for it highlights many of the works, including Adriane auf Naxos (composed in 1912). The opera has been described as 'sparkling', which sums it up well, and passages influenced by Bach, Mozart, Puccini, and Wagner add to the interest. The storyline is a play within a play, the second part being the mythological 'Opera' staged in the story. The three pieces transcribed* are from this Opera. The guitar arrangements All classical guitar pieces are compromises. The instrument has only six strings, the left hand four fingers able to be used, and with the right hand its rare to use more than three fingers and the thumb. So, despite the amount of noise possible, it's inevitable that passages occur where either harmony, bass or fragments of counterpoint that would be beneficial are left out. In particular, the higher up the neck music is played the simpler it tends to be, if harder to play, and unless the low bass is an open string there wont be any. So I think the main part of attaining a fair transcription (better to be called an arrangement if the original musical structure is not strictly followed, as in this case) is determining how a good compromise can be reached. Melody, counterpoint, bass and main harmonies demand inclusion, and register is important. One may generally assume the original score can't be improved on. However, if the music may sound well on guitar, and the above elements can be incorporated without the playing becoming very difficult, something enjoyable to play and worthwhile listening to should be able to be achieved. Overture; 'A golden time …' Here the Mozart influence, better, inspiration, is wonderfully evident. A gentle waltz time (only the first section of the overture is transcribed) carries the colourful harmonies, strong melodic threads and connecting flourishes that stamp both pieces. The aria is alluded to in the Overture several times, which as you would expect, is intricately woven with the hints themes later to be established in the Opera. It has a kind of 'jazzy' freedom, and it's always miraculous to me that composition so involved can retain its musical line, here done in Strauss's inimitable way. The aria, sung not far into the Opera, has the perfect inevitability of Mozart, but again it is Strauss. As explained, keys have been changed to suit the guitar. Chorus and Aria This selection from the finale has features well worth trying to translate. The device of having a strong chorus, in the style of a Bach chorale, stated and then counterpointed by a solo voice in a restatement, is potent, and that in the opera the chorus (of the three nymphs) isn't immediately followed by the accompanying aria (of Ariadne) means the latter comes as a moment of surprising beauty. Neither parts are complicated, and lovely arpeggios, a feature Strauss's music, often impart the assured progressions. A problem was to capture the distinct register of the soprano voices, som.

Guitar Ensemble Guitar - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.797833 By Michael Jackson. By Walter Scharf. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Pop. Score and parts. 12 pages. Derek Hasted #6514437. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.797833). BEN (MICHAEL JACKSON) - 3 GUITARS or LARGE ENSEMBLEFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes If there was one piece of music that showed the true extent of Michael Jackson’s musical prowess, it would surely be Ben, sung faultlessly and with great maturity at such a tender age.My arrangement for 3 guitars is in E. The original was in F, and you can, of course, fit a capo on fret 1 to play in the original key if you want. The choice of E gives a lovely rich sound with plenty of sustain, ideal for such a slow and tender piece.Much of the piece can be played in first and second positions, though the tone will be all the nicer if the music is taken up the neck. The use of B# and Fx may mean the music looks alien at first, but it’s under the fingers and the use of Fx rather than G, for example, gives the music the proper shape on the page. This arrangement is also ideal for a large ensemble. Whether you perform it on three guitars or in a large group, it will make a wonderfully haunting and moving sound that an audience will most certainly enjoy.I also have a separate version for two guitars which is a little more complex. Find it by going to my website (below)I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

Published by Jonathan Prentice (A0.884896). Accompanied by his long suffering servant, Leporello, the serial seducer, Don Giovanni looks on admiringly, as a vengeful Donna Elvira sings about her lust for justice against the man who has betrayed her, unaware that it's in fact him she's ranting about. From Act 1 of Mozart's famous opera, Ah, who could ever tell me is a wonderfully dramatic and fiery aria. (Here in Db Major, a tone lower than the original, suitable for younger sopranos).

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1225939 Composed by Rich Campbell. 21st Century. Octavo. 12 pages. Pay The Band Music #821977. Published by Pay The Band Music (A0.1225939). Composers Note: “The Red Wheelbarrow,†an innovative environmental/imagist poem I first read as a teenager, struck me as an alluring and joyful means to immerse in a commission by Austin's Inversion Ensemble for their Planet Home project. The score blossomed during a fellowship at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, a pastoral setting that nurtured embracing the poem’s vivid landscape. The piano provides a repeating foundation over which the choir playfully evokes the spare text, using variations of the initial theme throughout. There is a contemplative moment midway, then the pulse resumes, concluding with a gleeful repetition of the last line. The Red Wheelbarrow is a wonderfully approachable and fun piece of music. The singers of Inversion had a blast working through the rhythmic lilt and subtly beautiful harmonies, so often found in Rich Campbell's music. The clever musical interpretation brought out the wry humor of the text, which helped to set a relaxed atmosphere for the rest of our concert. It was exactly the opener we needed!-Trevor F. Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1257744 By Jeff Bjorck. By Will L. Thompson. Arranged by Jeff Bjorck. 19th Century,Christian,New Age,Religious,Spiritual. Score. 3 pages. Pure Piano Music by Jeff Bjorck #850974. Published by Pure Piano Music by Jeff Bjorck (A0.1257744). Jeff Bjorck's original solo piano arrangement of this traditional hymn melody by Will L. Thompson is from Bjorck's album/CD This I Know: Ageless Hymns of Faith. This hymn wonderfully portrays the caring heart of God, who so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son (John 3:16). Its lyrics are reminiscent of the prodigal son's father, who seemed to be waiting and watching for his erring child to come home.  Many hymns  beautifully  express  the  awesome majesty of God, but this one seems to personify His still, small, voice (I Kings 19:12). It is this still, small, yet powerfully loving voice that Bjorck conveys with this arrangement.

Instrumental Duet Guitar,Instrumental Duet,Voice - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.928253 By R.E.M. By Michael Mills, Michael Stipe, Peter Buck, and William Berry. Arranged by Simon James. Pop,Rock. Score and parts. 5 pages. DML #5371643. Published by DML (A0.928253). Released 1992 on the album ‘Automatic For The People’ and ranked No 31 in Q Magazine’s 1001 Best Songs Ever the track has enjoyed considerable success and been covered a number of times. In the liner notes of the album In Time: The Best Of REM 1988-2003, REM’s guitarist Peter Buck writes that the reason the lyrics are so atypically straightforward is because it was aimed at teenagers, and I've never watch ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’, but the idea that high school is a portal to hell seems pretty realistic to me. It’s a wonderfully simple song to play but less easy to sing convincingly. As with Eternal Flame a simple second guitar part can be added by strumming the chords on the off beats (beat 2 & 4). Although the guitar part is scored in 6/8 which makes it easier to read, the song is really a slow 4 to a bar, one bar per chord. This arrangement is from The Art Of Accompaniment On The Guitar by Simon James.
