Four of them were later arranged for Violin and Piano. The three movements are titled: 1. The Periwinkle (La Pervenche) 2. The Brook (Le Ruisseau) 3. The Evening (Le Soir) The three movements (all in bass clef) are very lyrical, about 8 minutes in length, and are perfect for intermediate and higher level performers to begin to learn the finer points of phrasing. The highest note is G above middle C.

The E minor Sonata Op. 38 by Brahms was composed between 1862 and 1865. He intended the Cellist and Pianist to be equal musical partners. The Sonata is an homage to Bach, the principal theme of the First movement and the Fugue are based on Contrapunctus 4 and 13 of the Art of Fugue. They will add much to the Bass Trombone (Tuba) study/etude literature. We look forward to many performers using these valuable studies to improve their technique and musicianship.Originally written for the bassoon, these studies were favorites of the great trombone teacher, Emory Remington (1891-1971). While perhaps not concert material, they provide much more musical interest than the typical étude book.I have added dynamics and changed phrasings to be more suitable for the bass trombone (or tuba) while keeping the wide tessitura of the original. The keys have been changed to put each étude in a more suitable range, while the trills from the original bassoon version are included primarily for tuba players. These enjoyable and challenging studies will provide many hours of pleasurable practice. I have returned to these two volumes often over the years and hope that you will also find them useful and rewarding.

Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.810832). Fantasy and Fugue in D minor BWV 905 is one of Bach's least known works originally written for keyboard. The Fantasy is of moderate tempo and relatively short. The top two lines have many suspensions while the bottom line is scalelike.   The Fugue is more lengthy with the top lines trading off short repeated passages while the bass line winds around alternating scales and octave jumps. Mr. Sauer's excellent arrangement is appropriate for advanced performers and is about 6 minutes in length.

Range is from high C in the 1st part down to a low C in the bass part.
