Click on the YouTube link above to listen to a full length performance of this arrangement played on Clarinet. The melody of Good King Wenceslas is Finnish in origin and dates back to the thirteenth century. The Christmas lyrics we know and love were added much later by English hymn-writer John Mason Neale and were first published in 1853. With a performance time a little over three minutes, this version of Good King Wenceslas is perfect for seasonal celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal. The jazz swing style is a fun and fresh take on this familiar traditional tune.Good King Wenceslas is arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. Rhythms are syncopated, as one would expect in swing music, and there is plenty of articulation detail to help deliver an authentic style. While the key is straightforward, there are several chromatic passages to keep players on their toes. The melody is played four times, each version different from the last, with a short intro and outro. This arrangement is suitable for players at an intermediate or early advanced level. Instrumental Duet Alto Saxophone,Instrumental Duet,Tenor Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.588422 Composed by David McKeown. Concert,Latin,Standards,World. Score and parts. 6 pages. David McKeown #5733607. Published by David McKeown (A0.588422). Rumba de Ruth is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Alto and one Tenor Saxophone. This duet is based on the traditional Rumba street music of Cuba. Rumberos sing semi-improvised melodies over the Rumba clave rhythm with other percussion added, and the accompanying dance is an integral part of the performance. The rhythms of Cuban Rumba have travelled all over the world, providing the foundations for Son and Salsa and the ballroom Rhumba among many other styles. If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The steady clave rhythm is implied throughout, and following the precise articulation in the score will help convey the style of the Rumba. Melodies are clearly articulated and played with passion. Rumba de Ruth has a performance time of just under three minutes. Instrumental Duet Alto Saxophone,Instrumental Duet,Tenor Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.591271 Composed by David McKeown. Easter,Latin,Pop,R & B,Rock. Score and parts. 3 pages. David McKeown #6290867. Published by David McKeown (A0.591271). The Chocolate Chalypso is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for one Alto and one Tenor Saxophone. Chocolate Chalypso is one in a series of ten Easter-themed duets each written in a different American dance style. In the late ‘50s just a handful of national TV shows in the US had a huge influence on the music and dance crazes of the time. Artists and dances came and went with dizzying speed. Chalypso was a short-lived craze in 1958 that combined the music of the new Rock’n’Roll with much-simplified steps borrowed from Cha Cha and Calypso; and no sooner had it caught on than it was itself supplanted by The Twist. Chocolate Chalypso is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above, with the accessible key and range balanced by some syncopated rhythms and accidentals. With a playing-time of around one and a half minutes, Chocolate Chalypso is a perfect upbeat addition to any performance program, formal or informal. Alto Saxophone Duet Alto Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.587771 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by David McKeown. 20th Century,Folk,Ragtime,Standards. 2 scores. 5 pages. David McKeown #4896897. Published by David McKeown (A0.587771). The most popular of Scott Joplin’s piano rags during his lifetime, The Maple Leaf Rag was published in 1899. Joplin lived for a while in Sedalia, Missouri and the Maple Leaf Club in that town is thought to have provided the name for this composition. It provided Joplin with a steady income for the rest of his life, and while he requested that it be played at his funeral, his wife refused as she felt it inappropriate. It was the first track on Joshua Rifkin’s  famous 1970 revival recording of Joplin’s music and, never waning in popularity, it has featured in hundreds of films. This version for Alto Saxophone Duet includes all four sections of the original composition. The tempo in recorded versions varies widely between 72 and 126, so the marking of 92 is a suggestion only. Musicians at an advanced intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The overall performance time is around four minutes.Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with phrasing, syncopated rhythms and light articulation.
