One Song is a beautifully crafted melody! It works perfectly with the lyrics, making us feel comfort and hope. For a song such as this, the melody couldn't be more well-written. It is simple enough for most anyone to follow it, and yet reaches to places that inspire the hope that you wish to bring out in this song. As it kicks up a notch at the end, we can hear a huge chorus singing it loudly, shaking the rafters, perhaps in a church, or at a rally. We can't say enough about this lyric. It is deceptively simple, but yet reaches around the world! Who (anywhere, or in any walk of life) could disagree with any of these lines? This verse (in particular) has a way of saying something that we've never quite heard put this way before: Everyone's a brother, Or a sister that you meet. We are all one family, Living on the same street. Yes, with the pace of the world today, we're on the same street, indeed!.

He goes on to tell her about the wonderful life that she can look forward to if she accepts his proposal of marriage. The gentleman, sure that his feelings are not unrequited, is surprised when she doesn’t respond immediately. After a few moments, he starts to say something and the young lady puts her fingers gently to his lips and says, “All I ask, is that you tread gently upon my heart. For I have been here before.�.

Notes from the Composer: Theme & Ten Variations was the result of my curiosity as a composer. It was self-assigned in an effort to deepen my own understanding of musical connectivity. There is a lot of math and manipulation in this composition, making it a good choice for analysis. However, musical communication is far more complicated than connectivity.

Each short says something in particular to the performer. I might name the theme Less is more. The first variation communicates a daring sense of risk. And so on. Of course, this is delightfully subjective! Some of these variations are technical beasts. Find your own tempos as you delve into this work. Musical ownership and self-discovery are the ultimate goals.

You've heard Nothing You Can Take From Me from the film The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds And Snakes (sung by Rachel Zegler) many times, but you'll be gladly astounded to hear this big band chart that puts a spin into it with great measure! 

After a maestoso rendition of the first verse by the brass section, the drums set up the tempo into a tour de force medium fast tempo tune influenced by Duke Jordan's Jordu (recorded by the Clifford Brown-Max Roach Quintet) & Bobby Timmons's Moanin' (recorded by Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers) that while retaining much of the original tune (verse, refrain & bridge) brings out a distinctive hard bop-influenced twist coupled with solos by tenor sax & drums as well as a powerful soli by the trumpet section and a shout chorus moment by the full band. 

This chart is perfect as a concert opener, anchorer or closer, and it's another good twist of the saying something old, something new in a refreshing way.

This is a melancholy little piece for piano and voice inspired by that feeling you get when you're rather down and you simply don't feel like going anywhere or doing anything. I was feeling particularly depressed and unmotivated one day; so much so that I didn't even feel like going to jazz band (which is saying something). In the few minutes before jazz band started, I took some time in a practice room to try and put my feelings to music, and I Am Not In The Mood For Jazz was born.
