SATB choir and string quartet - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8559-E Composed by Frank Ferko. Secular, 21st Century, Creation/Nature, Spring. Score & instrument part. 10 pages. Duration 2 minutes, 40 seconds. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8559-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8559-E). UPC: 600313485596. English. The Seasons was commissioned by the South Bend Chamber Singers, Nancy Menk, conductor, and first performed on March 3, 2013 by the South Bend Chamber Singers with the Euclid Quartet in a concert devoted to music about the weather. The texts for this work were selected by the composer, and they represent three different time periods, the 17th, 19th and early 20th centuries, to show that writers have long been fascinated by the seasons and by the distinct weather conditions that each season brings. Although certain types of weather, such as wind or rain, may occur in any of the seasons, the descriptions of weather in these four poems present specific weather conditions which commonly occur in each of the four seasons: a still, hot, sultry day interrupted by the movement of a light breeze from the hills (summer); the cooling morning mists and light frost which signal the coming of winter (autumn); the bitter iciness of fierce winds and frozen air-in this poem, further compared with man's ingratitude (winter); the warm rains and southerly winds that melt the ice and bring about new life (spring). Throughout this piece various musical devices are employed to underscore or even interpret the words. These devices include text painting, contrapuntal structures (double canon and fugue), and dramatically shifting harmonic colors as each season unfolds. The contrasting performing forces of mixed choir and string quartet are particularly well-suited for presenting, very colorfully, the various musical depictions of the weather conditions and characteristics of each of the seasons. -Frank FerkoDuration: 2:40.

Chamber Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1485456 Composed by Carlos Seixas. Arranged by Hélder Bento. Baroque,Christmas,Early Music,Religious,Sacred. 7 pages. Hélder Bento #1062513. Published by Hélder Bento (A0.1485456). Qui sedes - Duet for Soprano and Alto from Mass in G Major - Fullscore and PartsCarlos Seixas (1704-1742) was a Portuguese composer and organist who had close contact with the avant-garde European music of his time. Despite never leaving Portugal, Seixas collaborated with Domenico Scarlatti, who was the chapel master of the Portuguese court. Seixas is considered the most important Portuguese baroque composer of keyboard music. Although none of his original works survived, he is credited with composing approximately 700 toccatas. Of these, only ninety-five survived in authenticated sources, along with other instrumental pieces and ten complete vocal works, including the Mass in G major. This mass is written for four soloists (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass), choir, and strings. It is divided into five parts: Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei. In addition to the choral sections, this piece also includes four arias, one for each soloist, two duets for soprano and alto, and a trio for soprano, alto, and tenor.

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533052 Composed by Germaine Tailleferre. Arranged by Paul Wehage. 20th Century,Contemporary,Instructional. Score and parts. 17 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #432815. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533052). In the late 1990s, a score was found in Germaine Tailleferre’s papers with the title page “Choral et Fugue pour orchestre d’harmonie†and a dedication “à L'Harmonie Municipale de Lyonâ€. The pages which followed contained the score of “Choral†for organ with optional brass and “Fugue†for orchestra. When the late composer Desiré Dondeyne was consulted concerning this score, he confirmed that this work had been projected, but refused to say anything further on the subject. Research was undertaken to try to locate a scale in the municipal archives of the City of Lyons (as the Municipal Band no longer exists) but proved to be unsucessful. It is unclear whether or not Tailleferre intended to undertake this work herself or if she intended to entrust it (as she often did) to Dondeyne. In any case, it would appear that the concert band version for this work was probably never completed. Paul Wehage, a longtime scholar of the works of Tailleferre, has undertaken the orchestration of this work The Fugue movement remains close to Tailleferre’s original version for orchestra. The choral section is entirely rescored.
