It is arguably   one of his greatest and most important works. The passacaglia starts with an  ostinato theme, followed by 20 variations. Immediately after the passacaglia,  without break, is a double fugue based on the ostinato theme. This arrangement  pays homage to the great transcriptions of Stokowski and Ormandy, by weaving  the colors of brass, organ and percussion into symphonic textures.   Perfect for any recital,  concert or pops program.
