Mixed choir (SSAATTBB) - advanced - Digital Download

SKU: S9.Q46154

Composed by Irina Rebhuna. This edition: choral score. Distinguished Choral Music. Downloadable, Choral score. Duration 4' 40. Schott Music - Digital #Q46154. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q46154).

Latin.

As a singing teacher, choir director and not least as a passionate professional choir singer, Irina Rebhuna is perfectly familiar with the possibilities of the human voice. And so it is hardly surprising that the Latvian musician born in 1988 has devoted herself especially to the composition of vocal music. Her sacred choral work Libera me, Domine for mixed a cappella choir (SSAATTBB) won the special prize for the 'best composition for 4-6 voices' at the International Composition Competition 'Musica Sacra Nova' 2016. This church music gem, in which the eponymous Gregorian chorale is intonated by one of the (two) bass baritone sections at the beginning – over a musical tapestry woven by the remaining voices - and taken up again by all tenors at the end, is ideal for ambitious amateur choirs. The idea behind this work, says the composer, is 'the human reflection on the uncertain – on death, on Judgment Day or on what is inexplicable to us. Such as humility, excitement, fear, and atonement. The chant ends without ending, there is no solution. Life goes on because we ask the following question again and again: What will happen next?'.

Program note:

While browsing Amazon I stumbled upon a number of CD recordings of Morton Feldman’s 60-minute-plus work for solo piano, For Bunita Marcus. So I decided to give the music a listen. The experience of listening to the music was quite amazing.

Confession: I have always been an admirer of Feldman’s minimalist music - its spare, lingering, and acoustically gorgeous sonorities.

I had just finished a Horn Trio for Irina Muresanu and was not yet ready to embark on a song cycle with text by the Italian playwright Luigi Pirandello. So I said to myself why not write a morton feldman-like solo piano piece, just for the hell of it?

So, I did. I thought the idea of using chance in the style of John Cage would be appropriate to a Morton Feldman piece. In my case, I used a deck of cards.  I started composing on November 14 and finished seven days later on the 21st.

The work (unlike MF's unusual lengths) is only 20 minutes long.

It is a creative way to introduce young violin beginners to music through a familiar tune.
The Mary Had a Little Lamb nursery rhyme has been adapted into a musical love story for beginner violinsts.
There are four episodes:
1- Friendship for open string D, using the middle part of the bow, rhythm by sixteens, key of D major.
2-Teacher for open string G, using the middle part of the bow, rhythm by eights, key of G minor.
3- Lamb for open string E, key of A minor.
4- Reunion for open string A, key of D major.
The use of open strings allows beginners to focus on technique while still exploring different moods and tempos with the help of piano accompaniment.
By incorporating colorful illustrations and coloring pages, you are not only providing a musical experience but also encouraging artistic expression and creativity.
This musical material provides a holistic learning experience that combines music, storytelling, and visual arts, which can greatly enhance the learning journey for young violinicts.

Spanish Boat is a great adventure through music using only a few Open Strings. The song is simple but meaningful. The harmony captures the feeling of night and hopes to see the homeland. The game between Minor-Major modes adds special expressive touch to the musical story.  The violin part focuses on changing strings. Pizzicato could be used in the middle part. This song is a good chance for introducing Bow Re-Take. The Spanish Boat picture shows how this old ship looked a hundred years ago. The piano accompaniment imitates the sound of the waves splashing over the boards. The text helps to understand the story behind the music and makes the rhythm more accurate. The score is rich and colorful with lots of fun.

Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Baroque,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. 148 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #33805. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869285).

Instrumentation: violin solo & orchestra, 2222-4231-timp-hp-strings Program note. I first heard Irina Muresanu, maybe five years ago, with the Boston Trio in Jordan Hall at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. I was impressed from the very first note she played on her violin. Subsequently I heard her in a chamber music duo recital with pianist Ya-fei Chuang at the Harvard-Epworth Church in Cambridge, Massachusetts. I remember saying to myself, Wow, she has a big, warm sound! One day I would love to write a violin concerto for her! Last year I heard her play the Brahms and the Tchaikovsky violin concerti on separate occasions with the Lexington Symphony and the Boston Classical Orchestra. It was that wow factor again … When I proposed to write a violin concerto for Max Hobart and the Boston Civic Symphony Orchestra, he asked me who I would like to feature as the soloist. I said Irina Muresanu. Max said it was a fabulous choice since he has been thinking of engaging Irina to play with the Civic for some time. Over the past summer I indulged myself in a buying spree of scores and CD recordings of violin concerti. Many composers’ works stood out: concerti by Brahms, Mendelssohn, Sibelius, Stravinsky, Elgar, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Saint-Saëns, Dvorak, Paganini, Glazunov, Dohnanyi, Nielsen, Spohr, etc. And of course, I did not ignore the gems by Bach and Mozart! The listening to and research of all these concerti masterpieces were quite overwhelming, to say the least. So, by the time I was ready to begin work on my Concerto, I had to put all those scores and CDs aside and begin to find the music in my head. I must confess that it took a while. But eventually I found the seed that brought everything together. And within six weeks, between late September and early November, I completed the short score of the concerto. The orchestration took approximately ten days and the complete work was done on November 21st, 2009. My Violin Concerto, opus 129, is in two parts. Each part consists of a slow section that is followed by a fast one. Part I: Largo, Moderato, Allegro ma non troppo. Part II: Largo, Adagio, Prestissimo. Enjoy!!
