For the first time in 3 years, Elijah prays for rain. In the following rainstorm, Elijah outruns Ahab’s chariot returning to Samaria. But the next morning it seems as if nothing has happened. Jezebel still has her 400 prophets. She sends a message to Elijah that he will be killed.♫ Elijah is discouraged and defeated. Did Mt Carmel really mean nothing? He runs for the wilderness, complaining to God. He is so disheartened that he asks God to take his life. He makes a pilgrimage to Mt Horeb where Moses received the Law, fasting for 40 days, still complaining. He yearns for God to answer him. As at Mt Carmel, God had demonstrated His power at Sinai with thunderstorm and lightning. Elijah is evidently expecting large dramatic gestures for God to reveal Himself. But now God will teach Elijah that He also acts in ordinary, quiet ways, as will his continued ministry♫ 8 Themes were used to create this movement: 1. Ahab (based on Movement 2, theme 3) 2. Carmel is the ultimate contest between Ba’al and Yahweh. From morning until nearly sunset the 450 prophets of Ba’al did everything humanly possible to get Baal to show himself as the god of thunderstorms and fertility as the people of Israel watched. They even cut themselves to add human blood to the animal sacrifice. At twilight, Elijah rebuilt the altar of God, prepared the sacrifice and prayed. Fire from heaven (lightning) not only struck the altar but consumed it completely and evaporated the water that had drenched it. Chamber Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.772375 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by Amir Awad. Concert,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and parts. 49 pages. Amir Awad #3506351. Published by Amir Awad (A0.772375). This piece is originally composed by Gabriel Fauré for Flute and piano , and it is arranged for Flute and String OrchestraThis elegant solo has some beautiful melodic lines and is Impressionistic in form and harmony. An excellent teaching piece to emphasize phrasing and musicality, or a great programming choice when a lovely lyrical moment is needed! This famous work is dedicated to Paul Taffanel, often called the father of the modern French school of the flute. He was a busy man, active at the Opéra de Paris, in the Conservatoire concerts, as the leader of the Orchestre de la Société des Instruments à Vent, and, from 1893, as a professor at the Conservatoire. Fauré was appointed professor of composition there in 1896, and it was almost inevitable that Taffanel should ask him, in the spring of 1898, to write a sight-reading piece (the Morceau de lecture) and a concours composition for the July examinations. Fauré decided to pass the orchestration of his incidental music for Maeterlinck's play Pelléas et Mélisande, on which he had been feverishly working, to his pupil Charles Koechlin, so he could get to grips with the concours piece. The Fantaisie for flute and piano occupied him from the beginning of June until at least mid-July.The piece opens with an E-minor sicilienne of great charm, but soon gets to a C-major Allegro filled with lightning-fast pyrotechnics. Writing to Koechlin, Fauré complained:I am drowned in the Taffanel and plunged up to my neck in scales, arpeggios, and staccati! I have already perpetrated 104 bars of this irksome torture The first performance of the Fantaisie was given by the concours winner, Gaston Blanquart, on July 28, 1898.

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.778045 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Franz Danzi. Classical. Score and parts. 6 pages. ACORDO Sheet Music #5988465. Published by ACORDO Sheet Music (A0.778045). Danzi, Franz Ignaz (1763-1826) was a German composer. His works are not so popular. Only his wind quintets are know among woodwind players. He revered W. A. Mozart, and arranged Die Zauberflöte for string quartets. A set of the part notes was published by M. Falter, Munich around 1800. His arrangement consists of 17 pieces as follows. No.1, Hm! Hm! Hm! Hm! No.2, Zum Leiden bin ich auserkoren No.3, Schnelle Füsse rascher Mut No.4, Es lebe Sarastro Sarastro lebe! No.5, Herr ich bin zwar Verbrecherin No.6, Wenn tugend und gerechtigkeit No.7, Wie? wie? wie? No.8, O Isis und Osiris No.9, Bald prengt den Morgen zu verkünden No.10, Der, welcher wandert diese Straße voll Beschwerden No.11, Tamino mein! No.12, Wir wandelten durch Feuersgluten No.13, Papagena! Papagena! Weibchen! Täubchen! No.14, Klinget, Glockchen, klinget! No.15, Pa-Pa-Pa-Papageno No.16, Nur stille! stille! No.17, Heil sei euch GeweihtenThe arrangement was very faithful to the original, and is valuable in that players could enjoy the wonderful music as a chamber music. We first made the transcript of the sheet music published by M. Falter, and combined them to make scores. The scores show some discrepancies, which are usual in such old music notes, and was revised to obtain unified styles and articulations. In the revising, we referred the original score by Mozart.No.16, Nur stille! stille! is for Monostatos, the Queen of the Night, and the three ladies. They are going to sneak into the temple. Thunder, lightning, and tempest interrupt them, and finally they go to hell. Danzi's arrangement ends just before the thunder.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.576776 Composed by Roland Rogers. Arranged by David Warin Solomons. Christian,Romantic Period. Octavo. 7 pages. David Warin Solomons #432529. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.576776). Transcription of Roland Rogers' victorian choral piece The Storm, with words by Adelaide Anne Procter (who also wrote the words for the famous song by Arthur Sullivan The Lost Chord) An arrangement of this music for woodwind quartet is also available on this site. The sound sample is sung by me (transposed down a fourth). The tempest rages wild and high, The waves lift up their voice and cry Fierce answers to the angry sky, - Miserere Domine. Through the black night and driving rain, A ship is struggling, all in vain To live upon the stormy main; - Miserere Domine. The thunders roar, the lightnings glare, Vain is it now to strive or dare; A cry goes up of great despair, - Miserere Domine. The stormy voices of the main, The moaning wind, the pelting rain Beat on the nursery window pane: - Miserere Domine. Warm curtained was the little bed, Soft pillowed was the little head; The storm will wake the child, they said: Miserere Domine. Cowering among his pillows white He prays, his blue eyes dim with fright, Father save those at sea to-night! Miserere Domine. The morning shone all clear and gay, On a ship at anchor in the bay, And on a little child at play, - Gloria tibi Domine!
