New to the Stow Heritage Ringers Billy Joel Series for Handbell Ensembles is the tender piece of music, Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel) from the River of Dreams album. This soothing piece of music is rather straightforward, but is full of opportunities to create special musical moments. This will allow ensembles to focus on phrasing and exploring the softer side of the dynamic range handbells are capable of. With the primary challenges being weaving and phrasing, this piece sits at a very comfortable Level 3- which opens up the Billy Joel Series up to early-intermediate groups as well as more advanced ensembles.

Lullabye (goodnight, My Angel) for wind band was commissioned by Pano Mata and the ATSSB Region 1 for the 2022 All-Region Symphonic Band Clinic and Concert. Pano had heard many beautiful arrangements of the work by Billy Joel, but wanted something for the wind band medium that he could use for his guest clinicianship with the Region 1 All-Region Symphonic Band. The result is this arrangement, which works well for strong high school bands and collegiate ensembles alike. The piece has many opportunities for lyrical artistic moments, but also works well in a straightforward manner for ensembles with little rehearsal time. It is designed to be somewhat flexible with instrumentation, to accommodate the naturally diverse instrumentations of bands of all sizes.
