Organ - intermediate to advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q6612 Composed by Hermann Schroeder. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Duration 11 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q6612. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6612). 'Concerto da chiesa' is the last organ work by Hermann Schroeder (1904-1984). It was composed a few months before his death. The premiere was performed by Clemens Ganz, then organist at the Cathedral of Cologne, in memory of the esteemed teacher and college colleague. The work marks the end of a tirelessly prolific life with more than one hundred organ works of various characters, genres and possibilities of use in liturgy and concerts. The title 'Concerto da chiesa' reveals that this is a work for concerts, not for being used in services. The three-movement composition is an unmistakable 'Schroeder' work: emphasis of linearity according to high baroque standards, conciseness and sometimes impulsive gestures of the themes and rhythms, layers of parallel chords within a freely tonal modern harmony, not forgetting the plasticity of form and the motor functions which are surprisingly energetic for an eighty-year-old.

Organ - intermediate to advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q2375 Composed by Hermann Schroeder. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Duration 11 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q2375. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q2375). Hermann Schroeder (1904-1984) composed Organ Sonata No. 1 in 1957. Like many of his contemporaries (Ahrens, Bornefeld, Hessenberg, Pepping), he wrote his organ music under the influence of Bach and the so-called 'organ movement', providing hardly any information on the dynamics, articulation, phrasing or registration in the musical text. The former organist of the Cathedral of Cologne, Clemens Ganz, has added notes on interpretation to the present new edition which are based on his personal acquaintance with the composer and his experience of the performance practice. He indicates ways to authentically interpret the organ music of the 1950s.

Organ - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q2779 Composed by Hermann Schroeder. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Duration 12 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q2779. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q2779). Hermann Schroeder (1904–1984) ranks among the major German organ composers of the 20th century, being an excellent organist himself. Many of his more than 100 organ works deal with themes of the Gregorian chorale which Schroeder appreciated very much. The chorale's modal diatonicism which is freer and different than the later major-minor tonality establishes a perfect symbiosis with the free tonality of the contemporary composer. Among the church modes, the 'tonus peregrinus' is the most interesting because it has two alternating reciting tones and therefore does not fit into the common pattern of the eight church modes. Since it 'modulates', it is a stranger, a 'peregrinus', among the tones – and therefore of special interest to composers. It forms the basis of the old Gregorian Magnificat, Bach used it in his Magnificat, Mozart in the introit of his requiem. Schroeder used the tonus peregrinus to achieve interesting harmonic and tonal effects, thus creating a virtuoso cycle of ten effective and colourful variations. A rewarding piece for church services and concerts.

Cello and organ - easy - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q6604 Cantilena choralis. Composed by Hermann Schroeder. This edition: Sheet music. Cello Library. Downloadable. Duration 4' 10. Schott Music - Digital #Q6604. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6604). This little work was composed at the suggestion of the Belgian organist Jef Anseeuw who performed the world premiere at the Heilig-Hart Kerk in Izegem on 25 September 1982 together with Lieven Vanderwalle on the violoncello. The piece begins with a paraphrase of the initial motif 'Salve Regina' which is intonated by the cello in the low register. The cello then plays the entire melody of the song. The decent organ accompaniment is limited to some short interludes in which motifs of the Gregorian melody, as in a classical chorale prelude, are played in advance in an imitative manner. The lyrical, meditative composition is ideal for services or concerts and can be combined as an introductory piece with the large-scale organ composition 'Salve Regina' from Schroeder's 'Marianische Antiphone' (ED 4538).

Flute - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q47743 For Flute. Composed by Hermann Schroeder. This edition: Sheet music. Il Flauto traverso. Downloadable. Duration 8 minutes, 30 seconds. Schott Music - Digital #Q47743. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q47743). The pieces deal with musical themes such as cantabile playing, free interpretation without time pattern, differentiated rhythm, extended tonality, major intervals, dexterity, and much more. The musically appealing little pieces each have a different character and tempo and are suitable performance pieces. Also published: Sonate für Querflöte und Orgel (Schott ED 8386).

Harpsichord - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q11355 Composed by Hermann Schroeder. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Duration 10 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q11355. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q11355). Hermann Schroeder (1904-1984) wrote his Sonatina da camera at the suggestion of Prof. Hugo Ruf who had been looking for attractive new music for his 'old' instrument and for his students at the Cologne Musikhochschule. This work is a little three-movement sonata which draws on both the Baroque harpsichord tradition and the classical sonata form (in the outer movements). These elements are combined very successfully with a modern tonal language; with humour and the joy of virtuoso playing getting their fair share too. It is to be hoped that Schroeder's single work for harpsichord (apart from his 'Duplum' for organ and harpsichord, Schott ED 6233) will be played by many performers and included in the rather small contemporary repertoire for harpsichord as a valuable addition.

Organ - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q21240 Chorale prelude and chorale setting. Composed by Hermann Schroeder. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Schott Music - Digital #Q21240. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q21240). German. The fact that Hermann Schroeder ranks among the most important composers of Catholic church music in the 20th century shows especially in the simple church music form of the choral setting, e. g. in his setting of the sacred song Unüberwindlich starker Held, Sankt Michael. With his own typical archaic tonal language, Schroeder creates an a cappella choral setting (SATB) in which the dignity and the admiration of the heroic deeds of the Archangel Michael find their musical expression in a very compact form. The underlying melody (GL 924) dates from 1623. The author of the text of the Song of Michael is the German hymn writer Friedrich Spee. A very charming choral setting that can be easily mastered by any church choir; its five verses have to be sung alternately by the choir and the congregation. Apart from the a cappella choral setting, the practical congregational edition also contains a chorale prelude and the organ chorale which can, of course, be used as accompaniment for the congregation, but also for the choral setting.

Organ - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q2398 Partita for Organ. Composed by Hermann Schroeder. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Duration 13 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q2398. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q2398). Hermann Schroeder (1904–1984) ranks among the major German organ composers of the 20th century, being an excellent organist himself. Many of his more than 100 organ works deal with themes of the Gregorian chorale. The chorale's modal diatonicism which is freer and different than the later major-minor tonality establishes a perfect symbiosis with the free tonality of the contemporary composer. In the five-movement chorale partita, the more than 1,000 years old Mixolydian Whitsun Sequence of Hrabanus Maurus (9th century) is used in an imaginative and formally varied way: as a virtuoso toccata, in the second movement 'ostinato' as a strict trio setting over a seven-bar ostinato in the pedal, as a capriciously playful 'bicinium', and as a meditative, harmonically appealing 'arioso'. The fifth movement (fantasia ricercare) displays brilliant full-handed chords and virtuoso passages as well as a fugato in the middle section. A rewarding concert piece for Whitsun, with an excellent possibility of virtuoso interpretation and colourful registration.

Recorder quartet (SATB) - easy to intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q11339 Folk song variations. Composed by Hermann Schroeder. This edition: score and parts. Original Music for Recorder. Downloadable, Score and parts. Duration 5 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q11339. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q11339). Apart from his numerous church music works and organ compositions, the composer Hermann Schroeder (1904-1984) from Cologne also wrote a large number of chamber music works. His recorder quartet 'Kommt, ihr G'spielen' was created for the competition 'Jugend musiziert' and performed for the first time at an award winners' concert in Münster. The classical instrumentation of SATB recorders can be changed by having the bass played by the great bass flute or the violoncello. The well-known dancing tune from the Renaissance period inspired Schroeder to write a series of lively variations full of brio: Var. 1 turns the head motif into a free fantasia, Var. 2 puts the melody as fugato, Var. 3 is an agitated, polyphonic trio (SAT) with lively semiquaver figures, Var. 4 is a cheerful gigue, Var. 5 concludes the entire cycle in a virtuoso manner. A rewarding piece for tuition and concert, with a duration of about 5 minutes.

Cello and piano - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q11663 Composed by Eduard Puetz. This edition: Sheet music. Cello Library. Downloadable. Duration 4:30. Schott Music - Digital #Q11663. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q11663). Eduard Pütz (1911-2000) studied with Heinrich Lemacher and Hermann Schroeder at the Cologne Musikhochschule and later worked as a music teacher at the grammar school in Rheinbach near Bonn as well as a composition teacher at the Rhenish Music School in Cologne. Overcoming the boundaries between serious and entertaining music was what mattered to him which is why he wrote many works which tried to combine jazz and new music. His 'Adagietto' for violoncello and piano (1990) was discovered within the composer's estate and published for the first time. Prof. Julius Berger arranged the piece for practical playing, adding appropriate fingerings. A short performance piece with interesting harmonies and arpeggios in the piano part and expressive cantilenas in the cello part.
