Composed by Martin Meliton Pablo de Sarasate y Navascuez. This edition: Sheet music. Violin Library. Downloadable. Op. 43. Schott Music - Digital #Q20941. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q20941).

Pablo de Sarasate (1844-1908), undoubtedly, is one of the most important and most successful violin virtuosos of the second half of the 19th century and has become immortal through his virtuoso and highly expressive bravura pieces in the world of violin playing. His concert programme mostly consisted of his own compositions, even if quite a few works had been dedicated to him by fellow composers and tailor-made for him: for example, 'Symphonie espagnole' by Lalo, 'Scottish Fantasia' by Bruch and violin works by Saint-Saëns and Wieniawski. In 1899 Sarasate composed one of his most popular, non-Spanish pieces, 'Introduction & Tarantella' Op. 43, which was published in the following year, even in a version with orchestra accompaniment. The tarantella, a folk dance in 6/8 metre, comes from southern Italy and has developed from dance tunes played in Apulia for people suffering from tarantism. According to popular belief, the bite of a tarantula caused tarantism which was supposed to be cured by wild dancing. Go and try if Sarasate's salon piece really has medicinal properties!

SKU: A0.891964

Composed by Claude Debussy. Arranged by Stephen Davies. 20th Century,Concert,Standards. 66 pages. Stephen Davies #6140833. Published by Stephen Davies (A0.891964).

A battle royal between 6/8 and 3/4, tight staccato passages, a catchy and memorable main melody-line, a mysterious but harmonically captivating middle section, culminating in a gallop to the finish line, this Clarinet Sextet has a lot to offer the accomplished Clarinettist!

Scored for 4 Bb, Alto & Bass Clarinets, this early piano work by Debussy was originally written in 1891 under the name 'Tarantelle Styrienne', however he revised the piece in 1903 renaming it 'Dance'.

This is my take on it, so we Clarinet players can enjoy performing too!

Composed by Stephen Heller. Arranged by Keith W. Gehle. 19th Century,Classical,Romantic Period. Guitar Tab. 9 pages. Keith Gehle #948330. Published by Keith Gehle (A0.1364009).

Hungarian pianist Stephen Heller (1813 - 1888) was a highly regarded performer, composer, and teacher during the height of the Romantic Era and closely acquainted with many of the greats of that time including Berlioz, Chopin and Lizst. He was a prolific composer for the piano writing many hundreds of pieces which remain popular to this day with teachers and students alike. The two pieces presented here were arranged for guitar and recorded in 2004 as part of Keith’s album entitled Nocturne, Music of the Romantics. And while Heller didn’t write these pieces to necessarily be played together, the common key of E minor and contrasting tempi make for a nice recital pairing. This PDF includes standard notation with tablature for ease of learning.

Composed by Eric J Roth. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 7 pages. Eric J Roth #5296287. Published by Eric J Roth (A0.914743).

This Gigue is the finale of a four-movement sonata composed in 2018. Publication of the entire sonata is forthcoming. In the interim, I am offering three movements – the Passacaglia, Sarabande and Gigue – as single standalone works. I have performed them in my own concert programs both as part of the larger sonata and on their own. I believe that they work equally well both ways.

The Gigue form is a lively dance in triple meter that stems from the Irish jig. It probably originated in England and Ireland in the 16th century. In the Baroque period and beyond, composers have often used gigues as the final movement of dance suites.

The Gigue offered here is a galloping romp in 6/8 time with eighth notes running throughout most of the piece. It recalls similar gigues by the lutenist Sylvius Leopold Weiss (1687-1750) and the Tarantelle by Johann Kaspar Mertz (1806-1856). (The Tarantella is a similar lively dance form in triple time).

Like the Passacaglia, the Gigue uses an E harmonic minor scale with an added (structural) B flat that helps to blur the sense of strict tonality. The second section includes hints of G and B tonal areas before returning to E minor to end the piece.

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1028327

Composed by Claude Debussy. Arranged by Adrien de Croy. Romantic Period. Score and parts. 57 pages. Adrien de Croy #3478969. Published by Adrien de Croy (A0.1028327).

Debussy originally wrote this piece in 1890 (L.69).  It was first published as Tarantelle Styrienne in 1891.  He later revised it and republished it in 1903 as Danse.  After Debussy's death, the great Maurice Ravel arranged it for full orchestra.

This arrangement is for String Orchestra, based mostly off Ravel's orchestration, but also the piano part in some places where the harp that Ravel wrote in is unplayable by strings, whereas the piano part isn't.  Overall the intention is to retain as much as possible the texture and dynamic of the orchestral version in a string orchestra setting.
