Adrian Le Roy and his cousin Robert Ballard founded the printing firm Le Roy & Ballard, and in August 1551 obtained a royal privilege from Henry II to print music. In February 1553, the company was awarded the title of imprimeur du Roi en musique. Over the following two decades, other rival companies dropped out of the market, and from the 1570s onwards Le Roy & Ballard enjoyed a virtual monopoly in music publishing. The publishing house lasted until the 19th century. While Robert Ballard looked after the business side, Le Roy was the artistic director. He achieved renown as a composer and arranger of songs and instrumentals, his published work includes at least six books of tablature for the lute, 5 volumes for the guitar, and arrangements for the cittern. These compositions are presented in the same order as they appeared in the original work published in Paris by Le Roy et Ballard. They were transcribed from a facsimile edition of the original manuscript and every effort has been made to transcribe the original tablature into modern, easy-to-play, tablature and notation.

It is suitable as a prelude or postlude for a worship service, and has directions for extended repeats during Communion services. It has been performed in dozens of services since 1991. The score for sale here is a facsimile of the composer's autograph manuscript. This work was included in the composer's piano solo album Reflections on Favorite Hymns (MGR-1578; 2001) in a performance combining an 1899 Steinway piano and a 1983 Kurzweil K250 synthesizer; that recording is heard in the audio track with this SMP score.

(Here is a link to an article in The Guardian.)It's a neat piece, from the first movement containing 43 bars, to its over-arching 7-movement structure with not one but two minuets!To date, only manuscript parts have been available in facsimile online. The song's lyrics describe the Grinch as being unpleasant, foul-smelling, bad-mannered, despicable, and diabolical, using increasingly creative put-downs, metaphors, similes and off-hand comments by the singer, beginning with the opening line you're a mean one, Mr. Grinch. The song has been incorporated into most other adaptations of the story. In the 2000 live-action film, Jim Carrey performs the song in character as the Grinch, singing about himself.

Rondo a Capriccio in G Major, Op.129 - Rage Over A Lost Penny - Beethoven - Piano Solo.  The Rondo alla ingharese quasi un capriccio in G major, Op. 129 is a piano rondo by Ludwig van Beethoven. It is better known by the title Rage Over a Lost Penny, Vented in a Caprice. This title appears on the autograph manuscript, but not in Beethoven's hand, and has been attributed to his friend Anton Schindler. It is a favorite with audiences and is frequently performed as a showpiece. Robert Schumann wrote of the work that it would be difficult to find anything merrier than this whim... It is the most amiable, harmless anger, similar to that felt when one cannot pull a shoe from off the foot, citing the work as an instance of Beethoven's earthliness against those fixated upon a transcendental image of the composer. It is especially notable for the pithy way in which the memorable thematic material is shaped into precisely defined formal structures. The Trio starts with a quote from Beethoven’s Sonata ‘Les Adieux’, though Ligeti, typically, puts his own slant onto the famous horn fifths.This edition in normal music setting complements the facsimile edition of the work.

These seventeen compositions and the first and second parts of La Bataille de Ianequinn were transcribed for the Renaissance guitar, guitar, and for the baritone ukulele from a facsimile copy of Simon Gorlier’s Third Book.  Most are also playable on the soprano and tenor ukulele. The re-entrant tuning of the ukulele does not detract at all from what would otherwise be a faithful rendition of these compositions.  Most of the pieces sound just fine and while testing each piece for playability and checking for mistakes, I had both my tenor and baritone ukuleles close by my side. The music ranges from intermediate to fairly advanced skill levels.  I encourage you to experiment with the ornamentation and make these pieces your own.  Have fun!

Sports et divertissements (Sports and Pastimes) is a cycle of 21 short piano pieces composed in 1914 by Erik Satie.The set consists of a prefatory chorale and 20 musical vignettes depicting various sports and leisure activities. First published in 1923, it has long been considered one of his finest achievements.Musically it represents the peak of Satie's humoristic piano suites (1912-1915), but stands apart from that series in its fusion of several different art forms. Sports originally appeared as a collector's album with illustrations by Charles Martin, accompanied by music, prose poetry and calligraphy.
