Guillaume de Morlaye, (c. 1510-c. 1558) was a French Renaissance-era lutenist, composer, and music publisher. He was a pupil of Albert de Rippe and lived and worked in Paris. In 1552 Morlaye received a ten-year license to publish music from Henry II, and between 1553 and 1558 published four lute collections in cooperation with Michel Fezandat, six lute collections compiled by Albert de Rippe, and also lute arrangements of Pierre Certon and Claudin de Sermisy. He also published four books of his own four-course Renaissance guitar compositions from 1552–53, including fantasies and dances, I encourage you to experiment with ornamentation for each piece and make them your own. The text is in current French. In the end, I inserted the poem divided in the verses (couplets). This arrangement is from the facsimile present on the Book of Arias by Sir D'Ambruys. There is another version, from a book of various composers. This last, however, does not include the second verse written in the score (the diminutions), and since the metric of the poem changes between verses, the other version is much harder for the musicians. *Now with improved engraving quality and legebility.*.

The song's lyrics describe the Grinch as being unpleasant, foul-smelling, bad-mannered, despicable, and diabolical, using increasingly creative put-downs, metaphors, similes and off-hand comments by the singer, beginning with the opening line you're a mean one, Mr. Grinch. The song has been incorporated into most other adaptations of the story. In the 2000 live-action film, Jim Carrey performs the song in character as the Grinch, singing about himself.
